    Ok, we need pics.

    Of the car.

Getting your hands dirty is part of the fun, you'll get used to it.

You'll find some of the best mechanics don't get paid for their work, it's truly a labor of love. Sounds corny, but it's true.

And it's a slant 6, the "Leaning Tower of Power".

Got the one in my girls 65 Belevedere II running good a few months back. Set the valves right, it's crucial, ask me how I know.... :D When I got it they were by the previous guy that worked on it, but were set wrong and reeked havoc on us for awhile.

Good luck getting her on the road.

/6 distributors are best (and most easily) serviced out of the car. It is a simple exercise to remove it, and doing the points install and adjustment is a piece of cake with no worries about droping and loosing the small screws.

But you can do yourself a big favor by upgrading to a later model distributor and electronic igition setups that were stock with Chrysler starting in 73. The system is prettymuch fool proof, having a control box, coil and the distributor with no points to set. Look for light duty vans and or pickups and grab the whole deal. Once changed over, you will likely never need to pull the dist again, and you plugs will last longer too.

I knew somebody would help this girl out! And don't be bashful about bein' a girl. My girl came out to see what all the noise was about when me and a couple buddies got my Ford going. Turns out we had out the plug wires on the dizzy wired backwards, forgetting the Chevy/Ford differences. She was the one the come slap us with a "you dummies, its goes the other way..." Made me feel stupid and proud all at once.

I put a pertronix drop in module in mine years ago and have never had to mess with the distributor since. Cause they are a pain to get to.

I've done the disk brake conversion and a few other things to make it no mess no fuss...just get in and cruise. I did the weber 32/36 conversion for the Carb that almost make it like fuel injection compared to the 1 brl Holley.

Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck...they are a simple beast.

Old cars are a pain in the ass, it doesn't surprise me at all that you could not get competent work done on it for money, but that you could get it running with some friendly help.

Hopefully lots of other stuff on the car will cause problems, and you'll learn a lot more

    Cool,
I just got a 63 plymouth valiant with a slant 6 that's now my everyday driver.

Some semi-easy upgrades that will help on drive-ability would be:

~Pertronix or Electronic Ignition with mopar box or GM hei module.
(I just bought the pertronix unit and it's in the mail on it's way here.)

~Mini torque starter found at almost any u-pull it yard.
(I just went to the 2 u-pull it yards in chulavista and found plenty of the starters there, gonna put it on today)

    Hope this helps
