Hey guys, I just joined cuz I read some great tech info a that had been recommended here in the past.

I just bought a fully cosmetically restored, but not currently running, 1963 DeVille. Has a 390 with an automatic. The motor looks to be original and unrestored. Previous owner just tuned it up with cap rotor and wires, not plugs. He sold me the car cuz it ran bad, couldnt find the issue. Here is what I have found, can anyone help?

all cylinders but #1 have 130-160 lbs compression
    #1 has 40 lbs.
#1 had a bent intake pushrod, i replaced it.
    has original(1963) coil

Before and after the pushrod, car cranks slowly! with a fully charged battery, wont turn over. Has a hesitation while cranking.

All plugs are bad, will replace soon. I put mystery oil in it figuring that was the cause of the pushrod, but still wont start.

    Any advice? and questions?

Any help would be great, thanks in advance!!

    Marc

Had similar problems with mine, ended up replacing the battery cables, battery, upgraded to an electronic ignition and it still did it. Replaced the starter and works great now. I would check the battery cables first and then go to the starter. Good luck!

so, i got it started, but that wasnt a bit victory. Motor sounds like there is something wrong internally, gonna take it to a buddys shop and further evaluate. Thanks for all of your help.
