Good morning Guys and gals. My Grandson and I have run into a smalll problem. We are installing 4 wheel disk brakes in our 38 chevy truck. We are going to use a 1971 corvette non-power master cyn and we are at a loss as to what pedal ***embley to use for the brakes and from what doner car. I was able to put disk brakes on the front of my 57 chevy and used the stock pedals. Does anyone have an idea of what ***embley will work other than a 71 corvette ***embley or a stock 57 ***embley as they are quite high dollar. Thanks for your time and talent. Tom (Tired Old man)
how about the stock pedal and something like this http://ecihotrodbrakes.com/compact_underfloor_systems.html
Do you want firewall mount or underfloor? I used a generic firewall mount pedal for my 4wdb and a 1 1/4" MC with dual 11" booster, if you're interested I'll search and find out what truck its from. The pedal ***embly is around $100. It's not perfect, I had to cut/weld the pedal to make it fit how I like and the generic dual 8" booster snapped the rod pretty quick just bleeding the brakes, so that's why I bought a rebuilt OEM booster/MC. You can get them anywhere.
Thanks fellows but I want to have a non-power on the Firewall. We have no pedals at all right now. I had a 1975 chev truck at one time and the master cyl from the 71 corvette picture looked a lot like the disk-drum setup on the truck. We are just looking for one master cyn on the firewall and a simple apedal ***embley as we can use as leg room is a big factor on these old cabs. One from a tri chevy would work but we are short on dollars as everyone else LOL !!!!. Pedal ***emblies off of almost any GM pickup from '73 up to "95 should be as simple as you can get and require little modification. The truck in the avitar has a '55 chevy pedal & cylinder but those are not as readily available as the were when I put it in there. In its next incarnation I will use the above Chev pkp type.
Thanks again Guys. Have tried an S-10 as we have a doner 99 s-10 Blazer. After 5 hours of work to get the s-10 petal ***embley out there is NO way it will work on our 38 cab. Maybe an older s-10 will work. Will try and hit a "U-pick " next week. You Guys are GREAT as always. Hank Schaffner ( Tom as in tired old man)
Hank sorry the firewall isn't strong enough. I had to makke a stiffener to keep the cable throttle from flexing mounted on the firewall My 39 is within the first built has a 38 firewall. Hence my suggestion I've driven my truck since 1990. Used it almost everyday honest. You can write this off if you like but 38 firewall isnt a strong.
Thanks Bluto, will have to look into that problem.had a chopped 39 chevy two door years ago and had to add some 3/16' plate to get it right. You guys are great. TOM
Having pulled multiple pedal units out of cars, the vast majority aren't a lot different be they 55 Chevy or late S10. Don't be afraid to trim or alter the hanger. The firewall side bolt pattern is all the same. Non power master bolts to just one set of the studs. I did pull one out of a '64 Pontiac full size that was a more flat firewall mounting, if I remember right. It would fit in a compact space than the ones that extend back around the column jacket.
I used the pedal ***embly from a 70's Ford car on my '46 Ford truck, and it works quite well. Mine flexed the firewall a lot until I attached it to the dash rail and all flexing stopped.
