I have a 1953 Desoto I'm trying to get the master cylinder off to rebuild but I can't figure out how to get the brake and clutch pedals off of the cylinder ( if your looking at it, it's the front top big hole looks like a rod going through with brake on right side and clutch on left side of it ) how do I remove ? I already have the bottom front and two back bolts out ( top and bottom )
I really can't picture in my head what you are looking at, so can you post a pic? It would help us non-DeSoto people get a look and try to advise? I looked at the Kanter pic of their master cylinder and it shows a threaded rod coming out of the master cylinder. I am ***uming a nut secures the pedal ***embly to it? Maybe get a flashlight and see if you find the nut. It seems from the Kanter pic that once you get that off, you should be able to separate the MC from the firewall. http://www.kanter.com//catalog/prod...0&Vdr=&Itm=&MDv=1&MDpt=0&MSb=0&Cat=54&Prc=233#:
Thanks for for chiltons post that should help but as for a picture I have this pos iPhone and can't really get a clear shot I tried
the pic at kanter is not the right one here is what one looks like: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NOS-...568QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=&itemid=380171599568
did you get it apart yet? sounds pretty straightforward reading the chilton thing. Get everything off the pedals, remove the clips from the shaft, drop it down and push the shaft out. Unless the shaft is stuck, then you'll have fun.
Ok here we go I looked under there I don't see anything I did look at the top side of it through the fill hole on floor pan I seen a 14mm bolt that looks like it holds the clutch to the rod I loosened it but I still don't see where the brake will come off should there be the same bolt on brake?
Ok I got under there and removed all linkage to both pedals but in the chiltons posting it says "remove the "C" washers which retain the pedals to the shaft" I don't see any "C" washers on either side, can someone please HELP
I GOT IT !! **** that rod was in there hard (that's what she said) LOL I cleaned the area with a hole can of grease lightning after a good scrubing I could notice the "C" washers I pulled both sides off and started to pull the rod out brake side first but you have to push rod out the clutch side first to clear the brake pedal then it slid right out and lifted off start the rebuild today thanks to H.A.M.B.ers
