    Hello,

I have a 54 pontiac hardtop, American version, not Canadian, and was wanting to know if anybody could tell me what the diameter of the brake drums is.

I recently bought a used set, took them to get machined/tidied up, but the bloke reckons that they are already over size, his spec book only had from 59 onwards sizes, are these the same size???

I have new brake shoes(linings), they seem to be a good fit when sitting inside the drums.

Also, does anybody know who sells rebuilt or new 'Treadle Vac' brake master cylinder/boosters? My car is a straight 8 2 door, I bought it a couple of years ago when I was in good ol Mississippi, they were never sold here in Australia, we only got 4 door 6 cylinders.

Any help would be very much apreciated.
    Thanks
    Chevy......

Near as I can tell you drums are 11" . Treadle Vac's are kinda a POS and will be pricey to rebuild, probably haven't been any new available for 40 years. I would try to install a modern unit .

    Hi Chevy,
my manual states that on standard shoes the max id is 11 inches plus 40 thou (280.4mm),
on oversize shoes max is 60 thou (280.9mm)
And Nekronimcon has an aussie 54 with a straight eight.
I would just use unassisted brakes and save all the hassle...
