Jawas... good one Django! Where's the junk collector when I need him? I've got a whole pile of rusty model T leftovers in the shop I don't want.

People should really mind their own, walking into someone's garage and calling stuff junk when they have no idea about what it is.

I realize this thread is a year old, but I am going to add to it anyways...

My next door neighbor has been so for the 25 years I have lived here. I have some junk laying around out in the back. I tld him one day that his cousin could come by and take the 472 Caddy motor I had laying out in the dirt. JUST THE MOTOR... About 10 feet from it was an old B63 Mack truck radiator. The radiator was the core, grill, shell and shutters. A few days later I go out back and yes, the motor is gone, but so is the radiator. I ask my neighbor about it and his story is that "No, his cousin didnt take the radiator, just the motor, but that some white guys in a white Ford pickup took it..."

Well, it wasnt my neighbors place to watchdog my stuff, so I let it go. But I am pretty sure that his cousin saw all of that metal and copper and made a few bucks out of it.

Beyond that, my Nova sits next to my driveway, and at least once a month someone stops by asking if its for sale. I had the same problem when I lived out in the country. The car was 100' from the road, and only the tail stuck out from the covered carport, and yet people would still stop in and ask.

Last year here in Fresno, there was a subdivision that was in the process of being built. The streets were laid out and lit, but the developer had run out of money, so only a very few houses were built, and even fewer were occupied. Well, another builder took over and went to finish the project. For some reason the street lights (not signal lights) wouldnt work. It seems that in the time the project went tits up, till it started again, theives had stolen what amounted to 2 or 3 miles of copper cable that powered the area.

    Liars and theives, suck...

I don't get it. You almost punched somebody out for calling a project car 'junk'? It's in the guy's vocabulary. He's a junk dealer. To him everything is junk. At least he made an offer, and even established a rapport to negotiate when the first offer was refused and he upped the offer. Most of us would do the same thing. We might choose our words more carefully so as not to insult somebody that's thin skinned, but stopping, announcing presence, and promptly stating ones intentions isn't a bad thing at all. Lighten up.

  5. You had me at "landscaper guys like to park in my yard for some reason"...that would be enough to piss me off....I guess I just don't have the patience that you do. As far as the junk guy goes....you were very reasonable as far as I am concerned. The world seems to be going to "it's all about me", no consideration for anybody else....too bad.

I do not have a problem with some one making a few bucks junking. I did this my self when I was a teenager. I have a problem when they come and take stuf from one's yard. I have several junk men come in my neighborhood, so I'm not sure who took a possi unit drum to drum that was next to my garage 22 feet into my yard. He probably did not know what it was, and sold it for junk

Had some salesman from direct tv walk to the backyard, open the closed door and walk right into my garage, when I was in the middle of painting a mustang.

Had a couple people and junk guys stop in trying to buy the old bonneville I use to have. I still ran and was in fair shape. Never understood why had so many trying to buy that, but been lucky so far with my ford trucks sitting in the driveway (They were there when scrap prices were higher as well). Lots more weight.

Salesmen and junk collectors can be real f'n annoying. If I wanted to get rid of it, I'd either call someone to pick it up, haul it in myself, or there would be a for sale sign on it.

Wow, in Florida peple come and get your junk? Here, I have to drag a carcass onto the trailer (insert drop of sweat here) and haul it 20 miles to the nearest junk yard where I get about 75% of the price per ton paid out near bigger cites. Send your guy here, I have a stripped out 54 Ford for him.

No problems in my area. Living just 2 blocks from the sherrif's station doesn't hurt :) I call my local junkman when I have a small load I don't want to mess with. He hooks me up with good deals, just bought a stainless workbench from him for $50 out of a pizza place. It has an angled rasied front lip, will be perfect when working on PS pumps, carbs and other oily things so fluids don't run on shop floor.

I would of floored the guy.Id beef up security around your place he might of been playing dumb. When I moved half a state away I had about 6 motors tons of parts and everything I needed for my big block conversion for my dart Stolen out of my grandmothers shed. I ended up selling my dart I lost all motivation to build it. They even stole the shed. cops wouldnt do anything of course. I was more than ready to firebomb the neighbors who did it.

  25. Used to have a problem with stuff taken. Then I made the best purchase of my entire life - my German Shepherd. She is just like me, doesn't like very many people and doesn't play well with others. Just the way I like it, end of problems.

I din't have a problem with people who come and ask face-to-face. You can just say NO, though it may have to rephrased several ways for the persistent ones.

What REALLY bothers me is the thieves. They scope out when you come and go, then come and take your shit when you aren't there (NObody can watch every minute). Happened to me, and the SOB who did it is colling his heels in prison, because the word got around, and eventually the sheriffs arrived at his door!

I hate to hear of people losing things that have value to them. I've personally seen the dumbasses who have out of desperation sold things (stolen too),,items worth 1000.oo for $100.oo because of ignorance or greed or tweek.
With the actual 30% unemployment now AND 38 Million ILLEGALS calling our soil "home" (that our Goverment asked to be here) things will only get worse.
I've parted out over 400 old cars in the last 16 years. It's a ton of hard (honest) work. In the last 2 years I went to clean up the mess and physically couldn't,,so I gave away over 22 trailer loads of scrap,,some of of it piggy backed,,(two cars stacked).
I've never had any car stuff stolen but stopped a home break in twice.
Back in '92 I had two kids come up my driveway, one went around back and one came to the front door. When he rared back to kick in the door,, I opened it and pointed my shortened 12 gauge at his face and invited him in.
He put his hands up and when the other made it around to the front I grabbed the first one and put the gun to his head and met the other outside. I got them both on their knees and racked the 12 and literally said "I'm the last thing you're ever gonna see" and they looked down and sobbed and started shaking,,I then popped it off in the air and said "Run you Muthrfkers or I WILL kill you".
They're still around the corner and grown men now. They haven't given me any more trouble. I found out later that they'd broken into other homes before mine that day.
Another time in 2000 we had one hell of a nasty ice storm,,snow and more ice, then more layers of snow then ice. It was about 12 inches worth total.
The power went off for 6 days. On the 2nd day of power outage I sent my family to a nearby town that was sparred the weather to stay there for safety.
I live on top of a mountain and I can see for 25 miles in all directions. There was not one single light to be seen anywhere. I mean you couldn't see your own hand in front of your face. I had a fireplace and some wood so I stayed home to watch over my place. I could kinda cook and kinda stay warm (no showers for 6 days, lol).
Anyway, the 4th night I heard crunching in the distance. It got closer, I got up & cracked the front door open and I could tell it was getting closer. I listened and determined it was coming from the woods towards me. Then I spotted a light that would momentarily come on and then go off. When the sound was about 300 feet I pulled ole number 12 back out and shot some 6's towards the potential theives.
My ears were ringing so loud EEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGgggggggggggggg.
When the ringing got to a lesser point where I could hear again, I could hear running away,,crunching fast away. So I aimed at the new direction and shoot twice,,Boom Boomm,,,EEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeennnggggggggg....
Being in the darkness and silence so long the shotgun blasts really hurt my ears for quite a while. It kinda shook me up that I was that close to an interaction with two men who wanted into my home. After that and a few more episodes people talk about me but the fkrs leave me alone.

I would have been pissed just at him calling them clunkers. Those cars are more well built than any of the overcomplicated pieces of crap coming out of Detroit now a days.
