I recently traded my 56 Belair rust bucket and some cash for this sweet old cruiser. Its a 63 Olds Ninety Eight. Its got "Super High Compression" 394 with a 4 barrel and an aluminum cover (not sure what that is but a couple of guys have told me that was a rare option for 63) I having my harmonic dampner rebuilt, redoing some wiring, and im gonna have my radiator rodded, after taht its ready to go. I plan to lower it a couple of inches, add some 14" Dayton wire wheels, some white walls, shave the door handles, hood, badges, and trunk, eliminate most of the chrome trim, add some 50' Pontiac tail lights, and tuck the back bumber. Last but not least im going with a heavy metal flake paint with some scallops down the side. Im thinking dark red with creme scallops.
I have a bagged '64 Ninety-Eight so I like these cars, but I'm not sure I'm feeling the mods you have planned. I can't see how '50 Pontiac tail lights are going to fit into this car, it's such a squared off 60's car, big round lights on the back aren't going to fit, physically or asthetically. Neat car, but I'd seriously rethink some of those plans. At least photoshop them out before you do it, see what it's going to look like. I'd rather see it with buffed out black paint, some other wheels, a couple coils cut and ditch that gay front license plate, that's all it really needs in my eyes.
One reason the poncho tail lights were really standing out to me is the natural curve of the rear sheet metal that the stock tail lights hide. I think if i cover the exsisting tail light pockets with sheet metal and set the 2 round lights in it, it should really pop. As for the wheels, i thought about some chrome reverse or just some nicer hub caps. Think about how 56 buick lights look on those big square bodies and u may kinda see where im going.
