. I buried my Dad last Saturday. He was a veteran of WWII. He was 83 and 1/2 years old. When I was talking with the manager of the cementary, he told me that 4 - 5 veterans a week were being buried at his cementary a week. The VA told him the number is close to a 1000 veterans a day nationwide. Thanks to all veterans. Without them , we could NOT enjoy the freedoms we have today. .
You guys don't realize how much we appreciate what you have done for us. And its a shame we have to wait for a special day to have enough courage to tell you. When in fact, it is your courage and dedication that gives us the right to voice our opinions and vote. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I pray everyday for the guys in Iraq and Afganistan. (I hate!) HATE
thank all of you, i myself is serving in the marine corps and thank you for remebering vets and one's that still serve our country today. (hence why i don't have alot of posts)
Everywhere in the world where people are free to choose the life they want to lead, a US Soldier was there. For every person who wants to protest our policies in this country, a soldier fought and died for that right. A soldier died fighting for the flag, and for the right of someone to burn that flag. Zell Miller said this all a lot more eloquently than I just did, and he had more to say about it, too, but it gets the point across. God bless every one of you, and thank you. -Brad
Virtually every Canadian knows this by heart: In Flanders Fields By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918) Canadian Army IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.
Amen, here's to all the Vets, Thanks for all that you've done for this country. And to all the current military personnel, Thanks for all that you are doing. Peter Szabo USCG RM2 1987-1995 (aka Farmall)
[ QUOTE ] A salute to the past, present and future. [/ QUOTE ] The past was handled by veterans. The present is being handled by veterans and is because of them. The future will be due to their diligence, perseverence, and dedication. We Salute you! Salute Jim
thanks guys its nice to hear that now, would have been great to hear it when I was 19. kids serving today are blessed with support from their country even from many who don't support its policies. anyway to all my fellow Viet Nam vets WELCOME HOME!
When I came home on leave or liberty in the '60's, it was like I had the plague. You couldn't even get a date without long hair and dirty clothes. I wonder what happened to all of those dirty hippies that spat at the GI's in the airport when they came back from Nam? Interesting how things have turned around. Hope that they don't turn back around the other way again. pigpen Yes, I got that awful name in the good old USN!
[ QUOTE ] I wonder what happened to all of those dirty hippies that spat at the GI's in the airport when they came back from Nam? [/ QUOTE ] they got themselves elected to Congress and every once in awhile get themselves elected President
i'm a disabled vietnam vet and since some of you guys are in a patriotic mood i want to point out something. while everybody is waving the flag and ass kissing the troops and letting bush throw away the lives of thousands of our children so his oil buddies can make more money, we have tens of thousands of disabled, crippled and dying veterens (from EVERY war from WW1 to this one) who are doing without much needed medical care and/or financial support from our government because of republican budget cutting. take your red white and blue ass down to ANY VA hospital and look at the lines of fucked up vets waiting for medical care. go ask the 52 year old paraplegic who has been in a wheelchair since he was 18 if he is getting all the help he needs. ask the gulf war vet what he is using for money to care for his birth damaged daughter since congress won't admit that his dna was fucked up by chemical exposure in iraq. goddammit, the american public doesn't seem to have any problem with sending healthy young men and women into harms way (as long as it isn't someone they know personally) but if they get maimed or killed they don't want to hear about it. if you REALLY want to honour our veterans then fucking pay attention to what your elected officials are doing (or not doing)about VA funding for our disabled vets and what it is doing for the welfare of the men and women serving in uniform right now. everybody just assumes that our vets and troops are taken care of, well, they aren't. congress has no problem spending billions on weapon systems but if a soldier in combat gets his legs blown off he gets $800 a month and a cheap wheelchair.
Yea bill, but at least we're eating the eggs now instead of wearing them. With basketball heroes costing millions and all those state supported 16 year old mothers out there, money for things like the VA in this country is always tight. You know that.
[ QUOTE ] A note of thanks to all who have served and are now serving in our military. Without you and your sacrifices our country would not enjoy the freedoms we do. [/ QUOTE ] So true... thank you.
Lilbill. I totally agree. I've been having some of those problems myself even though I am a retiree and live close to a base. Tricare just switched to Humana for a provider. One of Bush's contributors no doubt and also one of the worst HMO's in the country. We'll have to keep doggin' their ass till we die I think. pigpen "I used to be an angry young man. Now, I'm an angry old man!" (anon.)
Bill, Great that you brought this up. Many of us are unaware of those facts. Now that we know. What are we going to do to change this policy? Damn Republicans. The government constantly preaches loyalty until its time for them to take care of their own.
petejoe, it wasn't any better under slick Willie. I've got a buddy I drive to Salt Lake or Pocatello to the VA once in a while so he doesn't have to wait all damned day for the bus. That's at least a little help I think. Better than bitiching about whoever's in office at the time and doing nothing. If that's all we did, we wouldn't be any better than the politicians.
