I drove my '62 sports futura aprox. 200000 mi before I called dead! ('65 200/ c4 combo) It's now in the back yard waiting for a 250 with a turbo and T-5. You'll love the switch. For ignition I used an old Mallory "double life" distributor with a forrunner to the pertronix called Allison. Pertronix would be the same and have a direct fit kit for that distributor. Advantage being a better, more easily tuneable advance curve, and no vacuum. For carburation I used an adapter from clifford that pusts a webber DGV 32/36 carb in place, and increased the inlet diameter in the head. These two mods and headers are the only things you need to do to wake these puppies up quite a bit.
Had a 200 with cam, bigger YF carb, duraspark ign(thanks simon!) and the huge ****** super comp header. With the 3.5's out back it would run with stockish 2V 289's all day long. I was very pleased! Those wheels are probabaly off an MG,since they had 4 by 4.5" too... Ollie
we have been taking our econoline on 3000 mile road trips every summer for the last 5 years. powered by a stock 170 with pertronix and a three on the tree. it averages 20 mpg. it screams at 64 mph at 3000 rpms on the highway and is always working hard. it has got us thru the big horn mountains at 11,000 ft, the great smoky mountains and the white mountains. i did pick up a 300 for it so we could actually p*** someone on the highway but the 170 runs so sweet i hate to remove it.
Check out gofastforless.com. They have an article on upgrading the Duraspark II diz with a GM HEI module. This makes for a very reliable, potent system. Just don't let the "Traditional" purists see it! BTW, my first car (in 1969) was a '61 Falcon sedan delivery. After the 144 spit up it's carrots, a hot rodding friend of my brother-in-law helped me stuff a 300/C4 into it. Firewall and trans tunnel both needed some m***aging, and engine mount perches and trans crossmember had to be fabbed. With an Offy intake and a 650CFM Holley, ported head, Crower cam, 352 flat-tops and headers. My friend's neighbor had rolled his '67 Mustang, so all it's underpinnings got bolted to my car. I could spank SBCs all weekend long (even towed some of 'em home) and still got 18mpg during the week.
hey powerband, could you explane the carburation on the 250 in the 61, do I see 2 one barrels and a four barrel , looks rather radical
Here's the little 170 in our HA/GR. We shaved the head, added the Strombergs, a Clay Smith cam and really woke it up. Lookin' for a 200 now!
Don't forget...if you go with the Mav you can also use the 8" rear... Edit: sorry, I know that's not the topic, but it's worth considering in your purchase.
Hello, I need help with a difficult harmonic balancer issue. I have a 1964 ford falcon futura. I have been told the engine is a 63 early 64. The car was made in jan. it has a 170 with one belt, no ac. I cannot find the harmonic balancer bolt anywhere. I've tried and called all around the US and know one can tell me the size. Any suggestions? The block is a 170 stamped with a t. Thanks in advance, Rob Sent from my iPhone

I was considering a 200 for my 56F100 build and went on up to a 300. The 200 has so many performance parts available compared to most other sixes which makes it very attractive.
Thanks everyone for the replies. Well i bought one from cl***ic inlines and it was way too big. Then after searching and searching, according to another company it should be 9/16-18 x 1/12 but even that seems too big. But then 1/2-18 x 11/2 is too small. Im at a loss after months of searching. Thanks needlouvers ill give you a call!
Well it turns out that the first thread was stripped and that's why it wouldn't go in... But thank you so much for all the help! Next dilemma... It will turn and I'm getting spark but it won't fire. I can't get it to turn over. Gettin spark into and out of the dist and to each plug. We rebuilt the carb today. Everything seems good but it won't fire over. Any suggestions?
