I have sent my '33 Plymouth gauge cluster to be restored by a guy in FL. He has just contacted me to ask how long the Temp gauge tube should be. It is going to be fit to a 32 truck dash in my 30 A Coupe. The engine is a Chevy 350 (for now). I'm asking you HAMB guys cos I have got no idea at all! Thanks in advance & any help very much appreciated!
Well, it depends on where your temp gauge will be, and where you're going to put the bulb into the motor. Best way I know would be to take a piece of wire that you can bend, taking the route the capillary tube will take. From temp gauge location, through firewall, and to whichever head you will be putting the bulb into. Maybe add a foot, which you can coil up under the dash. Better to be too long than too short.
S/w standard lengths = 60" or 72".. I would order 72" and coil up the extra length as well. You never know when a better / different / way cooler engine will come your way ! Better to have the extra length and NOT need it than NEED the extra and not have it...Or something like that ( careful, possible dirty joke here ! ) LOL ! Dave
I would leave a little extra, you can coil it up behind the firewall. The cap/bulb on my 327 chev is in the top of the waterpump (early style short pump) so a straight shot from the radiator to the instrument panel is about what I would go with. ......looks like we all agree more is better, I just type too damn slow!!
