after a day of driving, on my way home i noticed my car running rich, when i got home i noticed fuel dripping off the carb onto the intake. a day before i put a new fuel pump on it (nothing special just a stock mechanical pump) i dont see how it could be the fuel pump. anyway a friend of mine told me if i was having a miss that would cause it to leak after a long drive. so i checked my plug wires and they where all fine......any other suggestions would be awesome. thanks for taking the time to read this. im not much of a mechanic but hey we all start somewere.
Check your float level, and make sure that your needle and seat is working properly. You may have gotten some junk in your seat, which won't allow the float to shut off incoming fuel when the bowl is full. The type of engine and carbureter would be handy if you would like more specific help.
Is this something you just got together? I doubt a fuel pump will cause this. Most likely some dirt/rust got in the needle and seat. I like seeing Large fuel filters on old cars. The Wizzard
thanks guys. ill check the needle and seat. the engine is a 324 and the carb is a new edelbrock (600) and im running two fuel filters.
If it was fine before the new fuel pump, I would check these changing the pump could have dis-lodged some junk in the lines and now that stuff is hung up in the seat. fuel pressure from new pump could be higher than stock rating for that carb and over powering the needle seat. a worn seat could have able to keep up with warn/lower fuel pump pressure, restored stock pressure from new pump could now be over powering a worn seat. Does it have a miss as you mentioned in your original question?
hey LOWNBROKE...what the man said about new HIGHER pump pressure, sounds about right. considering you do have a new carb. buy a pressure fuel regulater, most are preset. but if flooding continues, don't be afraid to set the pressure down. hell that's what their for! call me POP...or the old FART!
Does it have a miss as you mentioned in your original question?[/QUOTE] i checked for a miss by pulling out and then replacing the plug wires from the distributer one at a time. as i pulled each plug wire out the idle always droped. this means no miss, right?

I had a 600 afb run fine for months, then one day it poored out so much (while NOT running) it hydrolocked the engine. pulled the plugs and i swear a gallon of fuel blew out. apparently they don't take kindly to more than 4~5 psi.
thanks 53. what is hydrolock? ill check the specs on my pump and see how much psi its putin out. one more thing, i have a va***e line comin off the fuel pump (i think its for the wipers) i pluged it up, but thinking back im sure it wasnt pluged up before. what im getting at is, by pluging that line is it putting out more psi? ill take the plug off and drive it around and see. thanks guys yall are cool
