I'm thinking it was more popular in the 50's and 60's and mostly a show car type thing but not exclusively. Having rode in a 40 Ford with a chrome dash I can assure you it will blind you on a bright sunny day! HRP
Well chrome dashes are twice as cool as a painted one, and wearing dark glasses for the glare is twice as cool as squinting...so...you'll be at least four times cooler.
i always wanted to do it, but paint the top of the dash so you would lose a little of the blinding affect
I saw a 50 Ford coupe in Richmond Virgina in a junkyard that had a chrome dash when I was a kid, never forgot the impact it made.
I purchased a 1938 ford last year and it has a chrome dash and garnish moldings just tying to figure out what direction I want to go with the car keeping the dash. Right now I need to rebuild the trans it also seems to have some serious bump steer may be the tires, it has the early flathead 21 stud, I have a rolling chassis set up for a SBC and I have a 53 truck flathead motor that needs rebuilt I was thinking of rebuilding the 53 motor using a later model 4 speed then finding (hopefully) a columbia rear for it or I could go with a stock looking 283 4 speed on the other chassis.
Nice math DB!!! I could not agree more. I have been going back and forth on doing my dash in my '35. I think it would be awesome but the blinding factor is something to think about. In another thread, some guys said that fellers did it back in the day to see up girls skirts when they got in the car. Now multiply that into the equation Dreddy and see how cool it is......my calculations say one-hundred times cooler.
I remember seeing several tri-chevy's with chrome glove box doors. Back in the day when the Ladies wore skirts that is!
