I need some help with measurements for 1935-37 Ford Pick up. I have front fender braces off a 1 ton truck, and need to shorten them to fit a 1/2 ton, they line up fine underneath the fender and teh frame, but when I put them on the frame they are too tall (of course) so i need to cut them down, I just don't know how much. From what I have the 1 ton braces are: 20 inches wide x 16 inches tall I need the 1/2 ton brace measurements. ALSO I need running board measurements. The previous owner completely FU the running boards, cut them in half, welded them back together and covered it all under bondo. This truck was on a 80 Oldsmobile frame (long upsetting story). Anyhow, I am going to make my own running boards using the outer edge of the existing one, what i should end up with is a smoothie running board, but I need measurements currently the board is 51 inches long (which I know is not right). Here are some pics.
If you have fenders, you might have better luck bolting the fender to the inner fender panel and to the grill and frame, (make sure the fenders are both level and even) then cut the inner braces into a few peices, cut out to make them fit taking a little out at a time and weld them back together. I changed from steel fenders to fiberglass ones and thats what I had to do, they were so different.
Yeah, thats what i was thinking too, I didnt have the inner fender panels up until a few days, but i just need to get a mas o menos "more or less" measurement so I am not too off.
one more time..... all i need right now is a quick measurement of how tall the fender brace is where it connects to the frame until it starts to curve. I will start to cut the brace tonight.
I think I have the measurments you need; The runningboards are 53 1/4" long The fender brace is 15 3/8" end to end. Looking at the photo of your brace and then mine, I'd say yours needs to be chopped off right where it flattens to attach to the frame/inner fender. I can send a photo if it'll help. Jim
Hey Jim a pic would be great. Now when you say "The fender brace is 15 3/8" end to end" you mean bottom of brace to the top (lets say you were to use a straight edge), which in my case reads about 16 1/2 if you look at the pic. But yeah a pic would be great. i'll cut em up and use Dirk35 method, kinda inch into it, but the closer I get to it the better. Thanks
The measurement I gave you is taken straight across from end to end. looking at your photo, id say it would be from the end that attaches to the fender to the point just below the straight area that would bolt to the inner fender. I'll send a pic via email. Jim
I really appreciate it it does help becasue this was my next step the rear braces. BUT the ones I need measurements for are the front brace, the one where the headlight goes through. I apologize for not being clear. When I mock up the front fenders with the front braces off the 1.5 ton the fenders are way up in the air, the front braces bolt up of to the frame and the fenders fine but are too long vertically. I have attached a pic of what i am looking for. This is not my truck just a reference, i made some arrows showing the measurements I need. Again i apologize, i realized that when you look at the pictures of the braces by themselves they don't really tell you where they go.
