Anyone have experience with 38 Ford Pickups? I found one that I'm thinking of buying for $500.00. I could use some advice on the front suspension.
might want to introduce yourself to everyone,who you are,family,projects,etc.Just something we all have to do when we start posting on this board.The 38 sounds like a good project to me,now hurry and do a proper intro before the intro police get you
Sorry, I am new to all of this. My name is Casey, I live in Merced, CA. I belong to a local club of traditionalists called Satans Chauffeurs. I was working on a 56 Dodge but kinda lost interest when I saw this 38. One of the members has a 49 Ford Coup that we just finished the chop another has a 54 chev another a 55 Dodge.
Merced now that's quite a walk from my house. I guess your front end depends on what style of rod you build out of the '38. If it your basic resto rod than a drop axle is the thing. Now if your going fenderless, mega channel and chop, hoodless, some off the wall grill shell. Then suicide is the only way to go. Of course I'm pretty opinionated if you catch my drift. welcome nevertheless, The Pknbner Oh yea give your picture another try. like to snag a look see at your new project.

[/ QUOTE ] My 39 has the original front suspension with no shocks and 53-56 Ford pickup brakes. I have operated this truck at high speed and under heavy loads for 11 years. I was surprised how well it works with no shocks. Straight axles are cheap to rebuild. Theres only 3 tierod ends and the kingpins.

I can see from your ***le that you have been at this for a while. I need to ask a quick question. If I don't have a personal web page is there any other way to display images of this truck so that you all can see it? Thanks fot the tip on the 55 truck brakes. If anyone is interested I'm planning on going with a stripped down rod for the 38, I think all that will be left by the time I'm done is a shortened frame, a cab and a motor. Unfortunately, due to the fact that I'm broke 75% of the time I'm going to have to use a 318 that I already have until I can get at least a 360 for a decent price. Thanks for the help.

Its very different from the 1/2 ton and the 1 1/2 ton. Also this grill is a 1939. If there is daylight between the hood release and the hood, it is a 38. If the hood release handle fits close to its base on the hood it is a 39. You probably will not be able to use the 1 1/2 ton front axle at all. look at the front of my 39 in this pic
So the seller is wrong, right? He is a hillbilly. You think it's a 39 1 1/2 ton? I still think I can work with it. I just love the body lines and all I need is the cab and the beginnings of a frame the rest I'm pretty sure I, with some help from my friends, can fab up.
