Not sure whats going on, but my fuel gauge on my RanchWagon is not reading at all.
Just pulled the tank to clean it out. Replaced the aluminum float and replaced the fuel line connecting the sending unit to the gauge. And nothing. I filled the tank and nothing registers on the gauge...
    Help!

Are you sure you connected the ground wire after reinstalling the sending unit in the tank? HRP

The first thing that I always do is remove the sender wire from the sender and ground it to a clean spot on the body or frame. If the gauge moves then you have a sender problem. If it still doesn't move then you have a gauge, power or wire problem. Isolating the problem is the first step.

My 56 sedan gas gauge did not work when I got it. I pulled the access door in the trunk only to find the wire disconnected from the sender at the tank. I have no idea how it came off but I slipped it back on and bingo. Don't overlook the simple stuff fearing a complicated repair.

Also, on those Fords, there is a power supply, or better yet, a step down transformer, I believe it's called, on back of the cluster...............
    It's for powering the gauges..............

Is you temp gauge working? If not this is the problem. You're going to have vietnamese hands to reach in there. I think Concourse Parts carries them (the unit, not the hands)...

You will need one, and I think NAPA still carries them.........................I believe, they, (Ford), used the same one up until 63-64.......

Ford used more or less the same instrument regulator through the '70s. NAPA appears to be discontinuing them - the price has gone way up lately and many of the part numbers are missing. The restoration places are still advertising them.

Any Ford made between 56 and 79 will have one though.

Thanks, so what is the regulator/transformer called exactly? not quite sure how to search for it.

In regards to grounding the wire, so from the sending unit to the gauge, is there another area to ground the wire?
