The wishbone was split by cutting off the ball... We are still waiting for the weld-in bungs for the tie rods to get here... They might be here today.

The engine and trans mount risers will be made of pipes front and rear, joined in the middle (left to right) with a plate. The pipes will be capped top and bottom with a plate with a hole in the middle. The pipes were cut on the band saw...

The old band saw has seen many projects and does not cut straight any more, so the risers were thrown in the mill and the ends were trued up.

Timmy (of The F-Bomb fame) trues the pipes:

We did more "bench-rodding" than work last night. Maybe tonight we will make more progress....

  8. Are you going to move the front axle forward? Might help with the look a little.

  13. Not sure without looking at it but the spring is in front of the axle now right? Move the axle forward and leave the spring where it is and attach it to the wishbones. Might need a narrower spring but it wouldn't be too hard to pull off.

The next 'victim': The front spring cross member is going to be modified with a new one that goes straight across. This will lower the front suspension about 6".

First a piece of s**** is welded across the front to maintain the dimension of the front of the frame when the old cross member is removed...

A little more clearance was needed, so the notch was ground larger…

Brandon made the new cross member from a ¼” sheet . It was inserted into the notch and then squared and leveled. The front spring angle (front to rear) was also set, then the cross member was welded into place. The ends of the frame were cut down and folded into the inside the cross member and welded for extra spring clearance. The remaining pieces of the old cross member will be trimmed for a better appearance tonight….

I welded the plates to the top and bottom of the engine mount risers. More on this mod in the next post….

This should go to the Tech O'Matic when we're done with it over here.

    Nice buildup.

The engine was set in the frame with the new risers and then the cab was set on so we could get an idea of how it looks… It looked good to us, so the cab was removed and we continued on the engine mount risers… They will be joined together in the middle with a plate in the front and rear. The rear riser will also have a bracket that goes back to the frame to locate the engine / trans front to back. We had some beer to drink, so we left off there… after all.. it was Friday night ‘ya know….
