use a rear rear end from whatever donor you pull the motor from, or why not just set the cab on a different ch***is. With a dually rear end:D

A pre 1973 gm pickup 1/2 ton rear goes in pretty easy (fab up spring perches) and retains the 6 lug pattern if needed.

He has a 52 car, not a truck.

  4. The "guy" would be me. Yeah, I know the newer common rail, computerized 5.9s are much more powerful than my old 95 mechanically injected lump. He said he wanted to avoid a lot of "wiring", so I figured the earlier engine would be more suited to his plans.
As far as the "Non Traditional" whiners go, there's never anything wrong with thinking outside of the box. He didn't ask for a build sheet, just a few simple questions. Traditional is certainly cool, but the more people try to make it a religion, the more alike and robotic they become.

6.2's were junk and 6.5's are marginally better. both are non-direct injection motors and they ****. total **** motors. if you want a good mechanical injection motor go with a ***mins. if you want to stick with gm/chevy go duramax but that's a complicated install.

The 97 and newer Ford Explorer rear ends are good cheap swaps as well. Leaf springs , beefy 31 spline axles , disc brakes and 8.8 ring gears. If you look around enough you can find one with a trac-loc in it and most were 3.73 gears. Don't remember the width off hand but they are about 1.5 inches narrower then the stock one under a 55-57 Chev. Best thing is the cost. I was buying 10 at a time for les then 100.00 each but a lot of yards will sell them for 125-150.
