55' was started more than a few years ago, have not worked on it in a couple of years. Moved a few times, been working a couple jobs, and working on building rehab. But finally got my own shop space. I will finish the 55, hardest part is done. 57' , previous owner bought it in 1987. He took off front clip, rebuilt motor(283PP), removed 4 speed and bucket seats. Put in PG and a 55' bench seat, could not find a 57' seat at the time. Touched up the Paint. Drove it a few thousand miles, approx 1988 to 1991. Rear Main was leaking on him. Parked in a Barn with overhead door open from 1991 to Jan , 2009 A Little more on this Story . One Sat Morning in Jan, 2009. Very Cold Took three of us about 4-5 hours , to move stuff around, start olde JD tractors by hand. Tow from Barn to Road through the snow (JD w/chains). Stopped close to home and spent $10.00 at Car Wash, trying to get Frozen Bird **** off in 20 Deg temperature. Well, what did come off, froze to metal bed of my Cousins Car Carrier. I was putting Truck back together, as "RaceMad" & "Parts" got it up in the air and turned the Crank over . Took plugs out and soaked the Cyls for a few weeks, turning over alot by hand. Then a week w/battery and no plugs. Then we started her off a plastic jug. 50 PSI Oil Pressure Then out came PS, PB, A frames, Brakes, Rear Axle, Fuel Tank, Fuel & Brake lines, Driveshaft.
Everones a critic. Where's your sweet shiny Nomad? I like it as is too. The Nomad is such a great looking car to start with original or decked out
Cool, it sounds like he may have enjoyed having you drop by and take him for a ride in it. But I am in that group of car nuts who does not get the concept of leaving a rusty ***ed car a rusty ***ed car and calling it patina. I can see in this case that having one Nomad up and running and driving while trying to finish the long term total rebuild is pretty cool though. Having several projects going at one time and none running at the moment I'd feel pretty good right now with a crusty rusty one to drive around on a nice day. Get the photo of the odometer at 99999.9 and 00000.0 if you can and you just for grins. <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
Thats a very nice thing you did for the original owner. I hope you and he have a long friendship. As for the naysayers, just move along...
Get the photo of the odometer at 99999.9 and 00000.0 if you can well, i went a little farther than i needed for turning the OD over. Will have to get some Pics up . Went a little over 330 miles on Sunday. Never on the same road all day, one big loop up around the "Adirondacks"
Probably flat black and red wheels... Nice job and congrats on the miles. Like Mr48 said, I'd love to have a beater to beat around in. Too many in pieces here, too. Never ending story.
Sweet!! What a blast that had to be, a great cl***y touch!! And somebodys ******* are fitting to tight!! ~Sololobo~
Nice car! I like it as-is. Drive & enjoy! Regardless of whether they're restored/re-painted or not, it's just great to see them back on the road and being appreciated. I'm about to roll over 100k myself. Hopefully I'll remember to have the camera ready.
Hell Yeah man! What a self-less gesture! We could all learn from this, Right Geno? Guys that do things like you've done ssffnomad are pretty rare. so until I get ours back on the road and can get it back to my dad to drive, "Thanks"! We need more guys like you! And as far as it's condition??? #1) it's a Nomad...no comparison, those are awesome cars "period". and #2) I have to agree with a lot of prior posts..."Survivors" are WAY cool, are you kidding??? I'd drive it as it is everyday of the week! Cool-*** car man, cool-*** car.
Real cool story and and such a nice nomad. Props to you for taking the PO for a joy ride. I thought about doing the same in our wagon. Even though it was drive-able when we got it, as I tore it down I found way too many issues that could have really tore something up if we'd have put it on the road. Thanks again for sharing the story.
Wow... who peed in your Cheerios this morning. This guy bought a car, got it running, took a 100 mile road trip with the previous owner, and you felt the need to insult him. Wow, you're really cool. John
Woah Sweet! ssffnomad, there is nothing cooler in the world than awesome pictures taken over the dashboard of an awesome car. Congratulations on some awesome rides!
