My latest haul of parts, which yielded what will be my 1929 A closed-cab shop truck, came with parts carrying two other VIN's I had a member of the local PD, and a longtime friend, check all three VIN's, and they are all clear. He has even filled out the legally dreaded but required "VIN verification" paperwork for me. I am planning on using one for the '29A. The other two are from 1930, based on the serial sequence. What should I do with those? It is technically possible for me to register the other two as "Planned-Non-Operation" (PNO) and get plates for them. Should I do this and just hold on to them for future project work? Would that be unethical?
Just keep the title with the actual part that has the VIN (chassis, block, trans, whatever). Then you have an actual "car" to go with the paperwork.
I'm sure I will be in the minority around here, but when I have been in your situation I went to my local DMV office, told them the truth, and asked them about my options. My feeling is that DMV works for me and they are there to solve my problems. I have "re-birthed" several vehicles and even built a Specially Constructed Vehicle".
I would only get the PNO's if you plan on selling them in the future,or using them for your own projects. A lot of times it's easier for the buyer to see that it is legal and can be reg'ed. My .O2c
The thing is, here in CA you are required to have a law enforcement officer to verify the VIN electronically (not stolen, junked, etc), and physically, thus verifying its authenticity on, and as being part of a car. This has already been done for me, on all three VIN's! At this point, and if I had the wherewithal, I could go to the DMV and register all three, with titles in the mail in a few weeks, and plates in-hand today. Oh, and I have the parts with the VIN's on them, safe and secure.
i just titled and regged my 63 on a bill of sale. it took a vin verification, statment of fact and the bill of sale then some cash walked out with reg and plates. i was drerading it for a year bt once i fond a good dmv person it was smooth. i saw reg them then non op
Hey , QUESTION?. I'm gonna try to title my 32 or should I say my car that looks like a 32 jan 2nd 2010. I was hoping to do the first 500 sp100 smog exemption things. My question is how many receipts? what does the light and brake inspection entail. What are my chances? do I need fenders, seat belts ect. Any helpfull information would be appreciated. Thanks
Get the titles...they are going to be much more valuable soon, as it looks like the states are beginning to notice the trade in old titles that will be illegally applied to cars, funny titlles from outfits like Broadway, etc. I think far more people will have to go through assembled vehicle procedures in the future, and a real title linked to a real piece of metal with a real serial number will be worth a LOT.
What you really need is a miracle.those things are gone within the first two hours of the issue date. You will need EVERY reciept for EVERY piece on the car, especially every bit of drive train drive shaft, everything! If you purcheased it or traded it you will need paper on it.I have talked with people who have tried.None have succeded.Good luck man. Oh and after the highjack(sorry gimpys!) i say get those titles!!!!!
