Thanks for the input. I am aware of the search function. However I had not seen any comments on the Retrofit service - where they take an old gauge and update the internals to modern specs and restore the face of the gauge. They get a lot of money for this and wanted feedback from anyone who had their gauges restored by Cl***ic.

  3. We've used them twice before to refurb gauges. Great work & good to deal with.
All their gauges are good & can even be pricey new. We have the oval shaped "American Series" coming for a 57 Chevy. It's costing the customer $1,600 but it goes great with the car.
I think your gauges will cost more than that!

there is an older thread where someone complains about the price being to expensive. And someone else talks about United Speedometer.

Cl***ic instruments does a great job but definitely expensive. I had a 40 ford standard cluster done where they integrated the tach and speedo into the cluster together, the speedo worked clock wise and the tach worked counter clock wise. Very cool but cost over 2 grand.
United speedo did my last 40 deluxe guage and it looked very nice. It was done back original and cost about 800 best I can remember.

I have had several gauges done by United Speedometer. Old original gauges updated with modern mechanicals and the faces restored. I even had a 1938 Ford speedometer updated, and the face restored with a 150 MPH face. VERY good work. I would go with them for using old gauges, and Cl***ic if you want new ones.

Here is one set that I have updated and restored by United. Notice the MPH on the speedometer. Also, notice the modern readings for temperature, battery, etc. Started with original 1938 gauges.

i contacted cl***ic about redoing the speedo and gauges in my 40 merc.they were very helpful but bottom line was to do anything the prices started at $2500.thanks,but no thanks.i ended up installing vdo gauges from behind, and since the info is written on the gl***, instead of the gauge,on the originals, you have to look real close to see what i did

    Each gauge was about $800.

  12. I had a local Speedo shop quote me $500.00 a couple of years ago just to convert my Speedo from cable to a electric pickup . That was new updated inners with a new silkscreen gauge face.

I had a quote of $1100+ 8 months to do a 53 Pontiac cluster from Mo-Mo. They're local here but do a lot of work world wide, lots of high end european stuff. My Speedo wasn't bad and the other 4 gauges were standard 90 degree sweep with black face so I just gutted the movements out of some new SW and adapted to the Pontiac cluster. Would never know by looking at it in the car, but then I was lucky, the SW faces matched well. Cost less then $200 with senders, 1/2 day of tinkering.
