I recently acquired my 28 Roadster pickup back which i built back in 79 or so. I'm a little giddy about it and thought i'd share the story. Like i said, i built it in late 70's, sold it in 84 and gotter back last month. I have a little vid on 'You tube' with a link below if you want to check it out. I'm a lot older now , i mean alot older, oh my back, and just sitting in it i can't believe i drove this thing to the Oklahoma nationals in 83. I think ZZ TOP was there. But i do remember you could have bought it real cheap by the time i got there. So if you have 10 minutes to spare, the vid has some old build pics and recent. Thanks [
hmmm try this one, next time i'll test it,....sorry bout that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtOUWG5rjW0
That's pretty damn cool! I've built a few cars (ground up, not bolt on goodies) only to sell them for one reason or another(money money money) Wonder where they are sometimes...
Ya i here ya, built a few since the 28 to and wonder where they are. I'm actually lucky it was still around and available. Anyone else get luck getting thier old ride back?
ted i loved that story. change the wheels, leave it the way it is and drive that ****er...put some hair color on that top..ya gotta look as young as you must feel right now.
lol what's wrong with my hair color? Man if you took my hat off i'd be lucky to have any hair color at all....anywhere. HE HE. Too funny. Ya i think the old paint job with the scratches and 'patina' is kinda cool myself. The wheels definatly gotta go. Thinking painted rims, vintage rings and caps,.
Thats really cool you got your old ride back. I say loose those wheels too. They look like ****. It looked a lot better with the steels. Very nice truck!
cool story now hurry up and change those rims! i always hated those rims on anything, they just look cheap! can't you hear it screaming "take these rims off quick!" love your truck.
ya the rims **** the big one. Since i ran out of money i'm going to modify them and make due with what i have. I've already started with a mock up. here's a quick look. Color in pic is way off and looks better in real. What you think, red, black, or frame color which is kinda of dark plum. I thinking red to match the stripes which i don't care for either but they're painted on and not risking ruining the black trying to get the red stripes off.
Fantastic story, Tedley! Great looking truck, too. I'll keep an eye out for you next summer, I have a similar story.
I agree but it realy clashes with the red stripes. I do like the plum alot better as it's not so bold. Althou in real it looks pretty good. Pic magnified that red for some reason.
Ted, I remember you and your RPU from when I was a kid in WPG. Seems to me you had it at the World of Wheels in the late 70's and some big name (Barris maybe?) walked by and told you what a great little truck you'd built. Happy for you to get 'er back.
Yes i did known where it was. Actually, every year for the last 3-4 years i'd do a pop in and see see it and every year i'd ask if it was for sale. He gave me a price confidentialy and every year i'd walk away because i just didn't have the coin even at a 'gift' price. Word was out there that some others where looking at buying it and i had to s#&t or get off the pot. He realy wanted me to have it back just out of principle. So...i made arrangments $$$$$$. Feel good about it too. It had to be done.
Nice story and kool little pickup. There are ways to remove one-shot sign paint without damaging the finish underneath. Oven cleaner and a soft rag...
Hmm i'll try that. The scuff plates need paint bad anyway and it way down low. If the over cleaner takes off one shot, won't it take off any paint including the black? I realise i have to be gentle and try to just rub the red only but....... i'll try it. Thanks for the tip
I just can't get over the fact the truck survived all them years without getting butchered up!!! Absolutely amazing, never let it go, again!!-MIKE
Wow man i can't believe you remember that. I think it was 82 at world of wheels. I wanted to pit it in a show like that while it was still in virgin state. Goerge Barris was there and autograft a pic and even the side curtain. Some of my fav cars as a kid where things like the munsters coach and batmobile , so i was kinda excited about that. as well. Can't believe you remember that. Blows me away!!!!!
Wow, that is a heart warming story. I am happy for ya man. It sure is cool that nobody messed with it. I am a young builder and always wonder where my cars will be years from now.
What an Awesome story! Congrats! I bet you sat in that garage for hours just staring at that truck when you got it home didn't you?!
i do understand being on a budget. ya gotta work with what ya already have but it's a real decent start. really cool that someone remembers your ride and has the chance to relive a "cool truck moment" with ya! thats priceless dude!
Hey man I was there in 83 green pac bill burnham said I set the country on its ear a real complement comin from a hero of all hotrodom rip bill oh the reverand was there
I have known Ted for many many years and he has always talked about the 28 and I am sure glad he has it back, it is where it belongs now. Looks great in the pictures but you should see this in real, looks even better! kgdb
