My buddy shot these pics through the glass of the closed Contra Costa Historical Society in Martinez, Ca. back in the Spring of '08. The exhibit was called "Mechanical Mysteries, a series of doo-dads, whatchamacallits and thingamabobs" created by loc...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Is this the same bob shultz that owns like a third of jack london square and has a warehouse half full of pre-war high end auto makes? If it is i had no idea he did art ! ...It would make sense he is quite eccentric . Great guy..... he was after my coe for a while
I believe this is some of his earlier work. His studio was in Port Costa during the 70's. Just west of Marinez...
The Teutonic Toy... HA! good one! Derelict... that photo you have is work by Clayton Bailey, a Port Costa artist still very active, and a former Studebaker fanatic. He owned 13 at one time, most of them bullet-nosed.
I got a 40's vacuum cleaner sitting around the shop. maybe I'll put some wheels and a seat on it and some other old junk I got sitting around here. that's some cool looking stuff. it's cool how they look like they have some sort of purpose but are really just random junk bolted together.
I love that sort of stuff. People who can take whatever article and make something completely different just blow me away. Great stuff. Tom
hmmm don't you guys have bits and pieces of stuff like that piled up? .. i sure do i thought every one did .. how else can ya build stuff unless the pile is ready to give back.. funny what a fertile imagination and a scrap heap can do...
ha cool stuff the wheels on that first object came off an old stryker hospital stretcher , i junked a couple out and have the same wheels on my stick welder cart ,
I like the way this guy thinks. I thought I was the only guy building crazy stuff in my garage out of old junk.
hey Dowies how about posting your old harley to the jockey journal i dig old bikes and im sure others would like to admire it
that's pretty cool....i know that guy, i've met him through a friend and was invited over to his wharehouse. I never went though. They always have cool exhibits downtown at the historical society or whatever it is. Martinez is chock full of neat stuff-neat people. every once in a while i see it or meet them. The Teutonic Toy is cool....The Teuton is a German Knight. That's what that means. Also known as a Teutonic Knight. It was our school mascot in the german town of Inman Kansas where i lived once. The Inman Teutons.
