I just bought a 350 TBI i was told it was a '95 not to sure about that tho. Im wanting to convert it to a traditional carb setup. Im planning on having to buy an intake and carb, but are there other things? do i need a diff distributor or will the stock one work? any thing else? Any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Make sure you buy an intake for a '95. Get a SBC HEI or reg. dizzy they are cheap.......... take the dizzy gear off the TBI and install on the replacement dist. You will need a mechanical or electric fuel pump & fuel pump to cam rod.

  3. TBI's stopped in '93. I just pulled on out of my caprice wagon. 94 and up was tuned port. Look for a camaro forum. There's more than enough info on this specific conversion there. Also, I don't think there is an eccentric on the cam for a fuel pump push rod.

TBI was on chevy trucks in 95. Just worked on my dad's 95 w/tbi. 96 was the first of the votec engines not sure if they had TBI though.

No fuel pump eccentric on the cam, so you will have to go electric or change the cam (>$). Different angle on the middle 4 intake bolts. Make sure you get a manifold that fits.

I am running my 305 this way. I am running an old school single point Delco. I did not change the the distributor gear. I will pull it and look for damage, 'cause I did not think about it until now....:(

Update: A look around the web, and on the Car Craft site seems to indicate that GM used a regular Iron gear, even with the roller cam. Hmmm.

the distributor i pulled out of my other ot vehicle's donor, 90 1/2 ton 350 tbi, has a bronze gear. It is a non roller, the intake from my 305 (86 caprice roller cam) fit it. i picked up an edelbrock performer for the 305, has the same multi angle bolts they used pre-vortec.

the gear didn't swap onto an early hei iirc, but the bronze gear on a mallory did swap onto a points distributor.

Weird, 'cause I just found the distributor that came from my '89 roller, and it has an iron gear. No idea....

Never seen a factory bronze gear .
The cam probably has the ecentric on it. get a rod and put it in hole and hold it while someone turns it over by hand to see if it moves .
The dreaded Professional Products intake is drilled for early and late heads or modify an old one like I did .

i think a 95 block wont have a the hole for a fuel pump push rod
the raised mounting area is but no hole
and gm treated there dist gears if you cant swap the gear from yours to a hei
gm perfomance parts catalog list a treated one just for this type of swap
last one i got was about 10.00

I was wrong. The roller cam motor distributor gear tested out as steel, not iron. I will be swapping it onto the points distributor later today.

If you can't find one in a yard to get the GM Performance Parts number is: 10456413.

Thank you Bigrat for pointing this out, it almost got right by me.

  15. Looks like I'll have to grab the dist. gear off of mine and stow it away, too. And, Screamin Metal, I'm in far north OKC.
