Back in the 70s, I was shooting a Notre Dame-Purdue game at Purdue, when the Irish ran a sweep right at me. I had been shooting high school football for years, and stood my ground. Until it dawned on me that I wasn't using a telephoto lens, and these kids were MUCH bigger.
I was probably working with you- I was at Ennis in 2000. I did the camera spotting gig with ESPN, TNN & Speedvision a few years ago also. Worked the starting line, the 100 ft.? camera before they went to the remote camera. Best seat in the house & the most fargin' dangerous to boot. Kinda nice to get a sniffer's row seat of the action and get paid for it, but i'd rather relax and drink a beer or two nowadays.
Here's the video. My brother is the one in the blue shirt and black shorts that is closted to the camera that took the video. He's the last one to run. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdT2UUg1zYU

If our new administration sees this, all cameras will be required to have labeling on the back: "OBJECTS IN VIEWFINDER ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR"
It was with a sudden and sickening feeling that Bob the photographer realized he didn't have the 600mm lens on.......
Andy Wilsheer is an outstanding photographer. Ironically he got hit by debris from Force a few years ago, at the finish line and hospitalized!!! As mentioned by Church he supercool.
Here is a photographer going for a wild ride, he is on the platform at the end of the track. I don't rmember the outcome.
So, is he cool or what? Check the last picture with Andy cooly checking the photos on his camera..... http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCPhoto.asp?ID=197010&Filter=30#indextop
