an attempt to prove NSRA wrong.. love it..

enough to join at 30.00 a year, NO..

I'd like to see where they intend to have their "events" and who is behind this group.. (ie does the leadership have any experience running a show?)

I for one would love to see rodders "tour" like the antique'rs do..

but most "street rodders" are too busy polishing billet.. and most ratrodders are too busy polishin their pompadour

About as lame as it gets. No, we don't need that ****. Does that car even have a metal body? If they can't pick a better example than that, then they don't even belong in a club they are trying to start.

"To be considered for Top 25, entries MUST HAVE
Minimum of 1000 miles on the odometer"

ha ha my current ride isn't even on the road yet and the used odometer says 84,000 miles (and might'a been around once!!).

the distinction is in the mind of the ruminator.....street rod was a name developed to avoid the horrible stigma of HOT ROD....as in any of them old movies we just love, where half of us are portrayed as shackled-pants rinks, and the other half are crewcut 'let's have a show' types. Hot rods were getting a bad rap from the usual gaggle of bad apples....in actuality, the bad apples were few and far between, but you know how them stodgy old adults hate anything new and different (and loud).

Currently, street rod is the genteel appelation referring to those people who build their cars (or have them built) to be driven and shown on occasion. Street rods seldom are found with any sort of patina except maybe some Turtle Wax residue near the windshield trim. Street rods MUST be painted well, or if in primer - the owner must immediately upon request be able to specify exactly which color it's going to be painted and how soon. Hot rods on the other hand are quite obviously a labor of love, and reflect the owner's personal preferences as to the level of engine performance, bodywork or body mods, balance of the running gear generally consisting of whatever was excess from the last project, or what could be traded/scrounged from buddies. Paint isn't as important as overall presentation. Hot rods have to look like they could kick your *** if they wanted to. They need a minimum number of bolt-on VISA®-acquired parts and there should not be any billet or carbon-fiber anywhere on the car. I bet there are smarter guys than myself in here that can either add to or modify my definition - or reject it entirely - ¿quien sabe?

Anyone know how many of these different lets say rod run promotional organizations have come and gone over the past 40 years? Every couple of years it seems like another one pops up to take the place of one that has met it's demise or compete with the established ones.

As far as cut off dates True I am one who prefers a 1948 or 1954 cutoff date as those tend to encomp*** the majority of our rods and traditional customs although 61 wouldn't be a bad cutoff date.

That said, what I have seen locally is that a lot of the older rodders (my age) with rods were byp***ing closed events and heading for open events simply because a lot of their kids or friends had later cars that didn't qualify for the closed events. You have a 32 Ford roadster and your son has a 68 Camaro that is tricked out and you have a choice of going alone to a closed event or travel with him to an equal open event what would most guys do?

Funny thing is that in 1973 the first year I took my 48 pickup to a rodding event it was 25 years old and considered to be "too new " by some working the gates at the event. Now a 1984 model is 25 years old. That is a bit scary. My daily driver 71 GMC is actually older now than my 48 was when I started building a rod out of it.

I'm way past the having to go to an event every weekend or else stage so I'll just pick and choose the events I want to go to an I'm just as likely to show up 150 to 1000 mile away as I am 25 to 50.

Propwash the first part of what you said is pretty well correct from what I remember. Trying to show at the time that just because we drove souped up old cars that we were not one step from a biker gang when we came to town and people didn't actually need to lock up their daughters in fear. Those who were involved in the first Street Rod Nationals in Peoria and we have at least one in our membership who still happens to drive the same car he drove to that event can tell you that there was a lot of apprehension a**** the Peoria city fathers before the event on having over 600 souped up old cars and their owners show up in town.

I know a lot of street rodders who don't have the trick of the week billet cars with the latest paint offerings from House of Color splashed on them just the same as I know hotrodders who have well finished and shiny cars and don't wear baggy ***ed shorts or their ball caps backwards.

I choose the more traditional cars simply because I have always preferred them and I am tired of doing something to my truck or other car or buying a part for it only to have that work, part, wheel or wheel tire combo be outdated when the next rod magazine comes out with next trick of the week.

I think one difference between "street rodders" and "hot rodders" may be that a lot of street rodders show up at an event and check out the other cars to see what the compe***ion for a trophy might be and may even check ahead of time to see if certain people and their cars are going to be at an event so that they can go somewhere else and have a better chance at a trophy. A hot rodder shows up and looks around to see what he thinks is the coolest car there and checks before hand to see where the guys of like minds are going so that he can be with them and their cars trophy be damned unless it is for racing at the drags.

The more car clubs, the more shows. That's good news.

Do you really need to join an ***ociation to really enjoy your car? If you are going to go to several of their events a year it will save you some green on the entry fee but thats about it . I do belong to GOOD-GUYS , have since 1988 or 89, but I only send the cash each year cause KIRK puts out an excelent magazine. Used to belong to NSRA for a couple years but that really ****ed , their events were too expensive and not much going on. Any ways , I'll probably drop out of G-G soon as money is getting real tight and I really dont need to belong to anything to have fun. I think there are enough friends from the HAMB around to keep things lively !!! Mike.
