Found this in the trunk of a shoebox that was being crushed when a local junkyard was sold and ALL cars were being crushed. The owner didn't care what I grabbed since he made a fortune on the land selling it to Lowes. This was done a few years back and I need to sell it to get some cash for tires on my truck. Is it really a 49 merc dash and how much is it worth? Thanks!
You're one eBay auction away from finding out the value, although it is missing a lot of pieces. I knew it was a '49 Merc dash because I built too many AMT models of them ages ago.
ok boristheblade...just looking for some idea if its worth trying to sell to get some tires like I posted...you know with the economy and all... and money being tight! Thanks guys for your help.
Hi 6X2. As far as what it's worth, take what these guys are telling you with a grain of salt. I'm no expert, but first of all, it's not an "empty shell". The oil-pressure, temp, amp, and fuel-level gauges are still there, and look like they might be in decent shape. In this economy, cars aren't selling too good, but parts are still selling O.K. You may get more for the gauges alone, and still be able to sell the dash by itself. Now, I'm not saying you'll make a killing on the gauges, but if they can sell for even $25 each, that's better than $50 for the whole unit. Do a little investigation of your own, and try to get an idea what those gauges might sell for. Clean 'em up a little, and it might be good to determine if they're working or not, so you know what you have. Knowlege is power. Once you know, then take some good photos of 'em, and do as rustynewyorker suggested...put 'em on E-bay...and the shell...maybe as a set...maybe not. Good luck. - Rick
I'd be interested pm if you wanna figure out something and ship it to IL. My '51 dash is all boogered up.
Its a 49 Merc dash without question and if its in good cond you can get about $200 to $250 as its just the casing, if it was a complete dash with the instruments and functional you could easily get $750 to $1000
