I just got back from a trip down to Texas to pick up the rear and trans that I had bought. While down there my best friend's Dad hooked me up with a guy that was parting out a Maverick that had been built as a Stock Eliminator car and ran only 8 p***es. It is a 200 cid 6 with a SROD trans and an 8" with 4:62's, Moser Axles and a Mini Spool. He is building a True street car so he sold me the engine, trans, clutch bellhousing and rear for $500.00. The engine is fresh with just break in and those 8 p***es on it. I heard it run and with the custom ground (probably $$$) cam in it it sounded pretty good. On the way back I stopped in Olathe Kansas and picked up some 21" Model A wheels and then in SW Iowa to get the Model A front end that I bought (this is perfect almost like new for $100.00 !!!)
Another good deal is that I guy I know has an open bay in the shop he bought for his business and is going to let me use it in exchange for some sweat equity. It is only 15' x 25' but it has 220v power. Right now it only has 2 60w bulbs for light. That is the reason for no photos right now all I had was my cell phone and it does not have a flash.

Now for the name part, is there anyplace that has a registry of HA/GR names. I have 2 ideas but I don't want to be stealing from anyone.

I was thinking of 1. 6 Gun 2. 6 Appeal (or may 6 A-Peel and do a banana related artwork design.

What do you guys think ???

Oh and another thing, the guy who owns the shop I am building at has a wire feed welder that he says can be converted to a Mig with about $35 in parts, he says if I buy the parts I can use it and he will even help/coach me on the welding.

    I am wayyyy excited.

Maybe, you could find a race approved version of this:

I like it. There were a couple old codgers that blew through here about 10 years ago with a blue Anglia (48-49 I think) that was powered by a Chevy 261. It was called "Six Appeal" a word play on *** Appeal. I thought it was too cool.... I like your idea, especially if you could incorporate a cartoon banana of some sort into the logo. Take it, and run!!!

OK, I have decided on 6 A-Peel and I have a friend who sign paints working on a graphic that has the number 6 inside a peeling bananna.

As far as updates go I don't have too much done. I laid the stuff out on the floor and jackstands, then we tacked some steel together. I am using 2"x3" .125 so far I I am 26" wide(inside) parallel and depending on what I do with the rear of the frame and axle mount I think I will have about 108" wheel base. Shop is still too dark for photos, but I am going to get my wife a new digicam and take the old one to do***ent the build up.

I scored some fluorescent light fixtures for the bay, 12 4 footers and 2 8 footers for $30 and my neighbor gave me a drill press.

  10. would it be too graphic, too blatant, to play on the old "chick stradling a rocket" artwork, have the chick riding the giant banana?

I got some of the lights up. I got a spool of lightweight chain and hung 6 of the 4 footers so they are about 10 feet over the workspace, then in an epiphany I decided to mount the longer ones on the wall sort of like they do in some high end paint booths. There where holes already in the fixtures just for that. I am going to buy bulbs in the morning (that probably won't be a cheap date !) and what I am going to do is run them together to a powerstrip and plugged that into the switch controlled outlet in the ceiling. I hope then to get some more done on 6 A-Peel and actually get some photos rolling.

Have not done too much, got all the bulbs in and they all come on with one switch that is nice. I also bought a kerosene heater off of CL.

Been busy fixing the cooling system on my JeeP, at least it's an inline 6 !!!

Any Ideas for a steering box ???

    Thanks, ScottV

Scott.. I use VW bug steering boxes.. Easy to make center steer out of, and they work smooth, Plus. They are easy to mount, cheap and not very heavy.......

The kerosene heater will eat up your money faster than the build will. Propane is cheaper and you can get 100 lb. bottles cheap used. :)Roy

Thanks ThingyM ... there is a yard right across the street from where I work out of that has at least 50 VW's (no exaggeration !) I will check with them to see if I can score one than I might just have to hit you up for some conversion help.

    Thanks !!! ScottV

Picked up a fuel tank today ... I was going past a place that had a bunch of old Snowmobiles (even had one on the roof) I stopped and they had a '70s SkiDoo taken apart and the fuel tank was sculpted to fit in the front under the bodywork. I thought it would be a cool tank for 6 A-Peel

I may not be working tomorrow due to a derail of something so I plan to do a bunch of stuff, like take some pictures !!??!!

Bob, I am planning on using your rail as a template for setting up my front end so expect a bunch of questions from me.

*OBTW* did I mention to you guys I got the tank for only $5.00 ??!!??:)

I didn't get over to the shop as I planned today, instead I cleaned the garage like I promised my wife I would. She said something about parking her car inside and that my bike did not need the whole side of the garage.
I guess I'll put it back over with the HURST/Olds.

Scott// Unless you are very over weight.. 26" inside is awfully wide.. Pluss the extra 4" from the outside of the tubing makes it 30" overall.. You get them too wide, And you will be "Loose" inside the car..You want to be just snug inside the ch***is. Not tight, just snug.. If you are in the 160-180 lb range 22" is about right. Make the drivers area to fit you.....Not telling how to build your car. Just trying to give you some ideas....

I will post contact info when I get some, it is just a fenced in yard with no signage or anything. A former co-worker says he knows how to get a hold of the owner.

Well ThingyM, my shoulders are 24" wide outside to outside in just a T-shirt. I am 5' 11 3/4" and about 270#'s. I figure with a fire jacket and my 18"+ arms bent to hold the ****erfly, I am gonna need that kind of clearance. It is not an issue of overweight, just building to fit.
