Thank's Marwyn I have one episode called The Drag Strip but it is a poor copy. I collect old hot rod movies & tv shows. Cecil in Dayton Ohio Dodge34@webtv.net
I've looked for it with no luck. I actually haven't seen any episodes since it was first run, in the early sixties.
Newbie !!! I talked to George Barris about it a few years ago at Hara Arena and he was looking for it also. He worked with them on that show he said. I have over 400 old hot rod movie's & tv show's but I can't find that one. I'm also looking for a Window on Main Street episode from 1961 with Anne Helm and the Twister T. And a The Ty**** episode from 1964 called Dragster Andrews with Tommy Ivo and his Barnstormer Dragster.Sure hard to find any of these.
I remember Rod & Custom had a story on Straightaway and other tv shows with hot rods in 1963.It had Gene Winfield's Merc on the cover.
Cecil,I can also think about a early My three sons with a 37-38 chevy drag car. A dobie gillis with the barris version of Art Christman model A ,Thanks Marwyn
Marwyn ... How about the Real McCoys with the Hot Rod or the Life of Riley full of rods. I have about 25 Hot Rod TV Shows !!! I love that old stuff. Cecil
I did see the Real McCoys about 2 years ago on Direct TV . Still laughed ! I think you can get them sometimes in the Hell Mart $5 DVD bins . i have gotten some real good hot rood movies there ! RetroJim
Retro Jim ...Yes ... I have found a few at Wally World too. you can't beat te price !!! Did you ever see the Peter Gunn episode with the Kookie Kar ?
Does anybody remember this series? I never heard of it till I found this picture in an old issue of National Dragster.
Yes, I remember "Ty****" but didn't watch it regularly. It's from the mid-sixties and Walter Brennan's character was a millionaire, if I remember correctly. I am unaware of any episode with Tommy Ivo and/or his dragster.
Yes it was on tv in 1964 for one season. This episode was called Dragster Andrews. Walter drove Ivo's Barnstromer in it. Walter was about eighty then and they had to lift him out of the car after they filmed it. I'm still looking for a copy of it myself. So is Tommy !!!
Tommy Ivo was also in a Timmy and L***ie episode called L***ie's Protege. He drive's a 32 Roadster in it. Also Tom McMullen's 32 is in it before the flames was put on it.
Peter Gunn is on the RTV Retro Television Network. I tivo it everyday, but have not seen the Kookie Kar episode yet. They also had Batchelor Father on every day, but no longer run it. I knew of the series, but never seen it till my cable company put RTV on the air. In one of the episodes, house boy Peter Tong, owns a 32 highboy roadster.
Church Key .... The Peter Gunn episode is called Sisters of the Friendless with Norm and the Kookie Kar. I've never got to see the episode with the 32 in it.I would love to see that one.
Donna Reed show has a cool episode called Mary's Driving Lesson with a nice 32 roadster in it. Also Mr Ed has a 32 in the episode called Ed the Matchmaker. Also the Life of Riley episode called Juvenile Deliquent is full of Hot Rods and Dobie Gillis episode called Drag Strip Dobie.
The Mr Ed episode Ed the Matchmaker is on the THIS network cable station 467 in Bucks county PA this Tuesday 12-8-09 at 5 am.
Alright !!! If you get Highway Patrol in Pa. Watch for the episode Hot Rod it has a (GREAT) litte roadster in it also. And the Waltons has one called The Hot Rod that is in color.
I have the Retro Telivision Network, I think it is a nation wide channel. They just started airing a show called "Suspense", that I never heard of before. It looks like it was made around 1964-65, they are one hour dramas. Lot's of great car action...One episode had Brian Keith leaving L.A. heading east in a 62 Imperial. The whole episode was filmed on Rt. 66. Anybody else remeber this series.
I believe the show you are referring to was then known as Kraft Suspense Theater. It was an anthology series from, as you say, the 64-65 era. I saw that the episodes are available on "IOffer" on DVD.
Thanks Super Six...There was a Suspense Theater series in the fifties, I think that is available on DVD. This may have been an updated series in the sixties. I have been enjoying the episodes they have been showing, I tivo it everyday. Do you have Retro Vision in your area?
No. I wish we did. I did have a favorite episode from that series, although I haven't seen it since it first run. It's called The Jack is High, with Edd Byrnes, Pat O'Brien, and Henry Jones. Watch for it.
