I'm putting an S10 tailshaft housing on a Camaro T5. The tailshaft has the electronic speedo and I've never dealt with this electronic crap before, so I was just wondering, what sends the signal to the sensor? Is there supposed to be a magnet or something attached to the output shaft?

Yes it has a copper sensor, if you want to run the speedo you need to get a earlier model t5 from a s10 with mechanical speedo

PM 'snarl' here on the HAMB - he's really up on these electronic versions - some, apparently, can be converted to mechanical. He'll know the details.

Thanks Ernie & Rusty. I guess it's called a reluctor. I'm ordering one from The Gear Box. I'm aware of the electronic/mechanical conversion Abbott makes ($300 - ouch!). I found this one much cheaper:

Anyone else using this? It doesn't seem as popular, but if it basically does the same thing for $170 less, what the heck.

That must be new. I haven't seen that one before.

Keep in mind, if you are using the Camaro tailshaft, then you will need to shim the reluctor.
If both the S10 and Camaro transmissions were the same class (NWC or WC), then you could have installed the S10 tailshaft and not needed to shim anything.

Thanks Snarl. They are both the same class. Just in case someone else is searching for these parts in the future, I found both the reluctor ($5.00) and the NWC oiling funnel ($1.55) from The Gear Box. Hell, the transmission may wind up being the least expensive thing on my car. :)

    The parts came.

So if anyone ever needs the part number for an S10 NWC T5 reluctor ring, there it is.

Sorry for the multiple posts here, but I noticed the NWC oiling funnel doesn't fit as snug as the one that was originally in there. Is it supposed to slide into the other one or something? Because it fits perfectly when I use the old funnel as an adapter.

    Bump......

I'm in the middle of doing the t-5 tailshaft housing swap and I've got essentially the same question as totalrod2. I don't have an NWC to compare how the funnel fit in the original. Should the WC funnel be modified to use as an adapter to ensure a snug fit, or was the NWC funnel a loose fit originally?

loose fit isn't a problem... at least not with the funnel...
