Well, it's really not all that cool. I pulled into the parking lot at work tonight, and it looked like rain. So, I got out the rain-x for a new coat when the unmistakeable odor of gasoline hit me. It was strong! Like I was standing in it. Sure enough, I look down, and I'm standing in a giant puddle. So, I take a look under the rear and sure enough, it's pouring out. So, I ake a judgement call and drive it to a shop that I know(They're good people, and close-2 blocks away). I pull into the shop, take a look, and it's no longer leaking. Of course, They're closing up and can't take a look till the morning Now, I filled the gas tank on the way to work, and the spot in the parking lot had a slight decline to it. I guessing I have a hole of some sort up near the end of the tank closest to the drivers side(Thats where the leak seemed to be coming from) I guess I'll know for sure in the morning. So, just to troubleshoot-what else could it be? A Hole, loose fittings.... What kind of options-patch the hole(JB Weld and a galvinized roofing shingle!!!! just kidding!) New tank(sounds pricey$$$)
Kinda getto, but i'm from the barrio, so I just JB welded the hole on my tank, problem fixed that was at The Roundup in A-Town..
i know one thing and duct tape wont work on that cuz umm hehe i tried it but yeah ummm jb weld should work, but it's not ghetto it's useing what ya got
Check your vent. I don't know what kind of rod you have but the vent on my stock style 32 tank was problomatic. For no apparent reason it would dump gas. The fix was running the vent through a high loop in the trunk.
let me re-phrase that because my car is for sale... it only leaks when full. so come and get it... just dont top off!
my mate had a vb commodore that used to leak petrol when the tank was full then it would stop the start again really randomly
if it leaks when full, it could be leaking from the TOP of the tank the tank in my 59 FELL OUT while I was driving down the highway. Django and I relocated it to the trunk and it was leaking. I plugged the hole with CHEWING GUM and it got me to Abomber30's shop. By then it was leaking from everywhere, including the top of the tank where several large pinholes had appeared from the impact
[ QUOTE ] yeah mine leaks from the sender seal... no big deal. [/ QUOTE ] Mine does to. I just dont fill it to the top !!!
I found a solution similar to Bib overalls. On my 66 Chrysler convertible the rubber hose connecting the vent tube to the gas tank had rotted.
Same thing, bad rubber! That, and a bit of seepage from the seam on the tank. Sounds like a job for JB weld!
[ QUOTE ] the tank in my 59 FELL OUT while I was driving down the highway. [/ QUOTE ] I went through that about a month ago! there was so much undercoating and **** on the bottom of the tank that it didn't get damaged. But after getting the tank back in and filling up, found out that the tank dragging from the fuel lines for a quarter mile at about 60 caused the sending unit to crack. Parked that thing with the *** end low whenever I could for about a week untill i replaced the sending unit.
On a related note, has anyone used any of the Tank sealer type products? Are they worthwhile? Waste of money? Bad for the fuel system? Thanks! Bryan
I used to s****e the bottom of my tank pulling into parking lots some times and it would spring a leak, I carried a bar of soap and would rub it on the leak and it would seal up for a while, learned that one from my pops, works great in emergency temporary situations.

[ QUOTE ] Is POR 15 available at your local Pepboys, autozone type store? [/ QUOTE ] No. Use the internet, google, to look up where to purchase
i'm back sorry it took so long for me to reply bryan. i used duct tape on my tank when i found a leak near the filler neck and i put duct tape all around it and well the gas just melted the tape so yeah it dont work for everything. but it did hold on my tail light when me and big five broke it at his house that one day
I used the soap trick on my truck and it worked just fine...never leaked again...after a little surface rust formed you couldn't even tell there was a hole...something about the chemicals in the gas and the chemicals in the soap gettin all happy together.
