So I was in Austin, TX the other at a killer speed shop, and they told me about the HAMB. So here I am. I've grown up in NASCAR. I work for Joe Gibbs Racing, and my dad, Lake Speed, raced in NASCAR for 18 years. I get to travel around visiting engine builders and Dad races vintage go-karts. A few years back, Joe Gibbs had a custom Ford coupe built, and I got to have a little involvement in the car. He wanted something unique, but it also had to be a car he could drive - no garage queen for the NFL Hall of Famer. I've been hooked ever since. Race cars are normal stuff for me. I really like "old school" rods. Real cars have chrome bumpers.
Welcome Aboard! My granddad was best friends with Harry Hyde an Smokey Unick. To bad I never got to meet him. He died from cancer after he left Japan, after they dropped the bomb. They were working on getting a car together for NASCAR.
Do you work at the shop or travel?I met some guys from Roush out here for the Fontana race, invited them to go down to Bobs Big Boy next time they come around, really cool guys.Got some family in Pineville N.C. next time I come to visit, we should hook up and get a behind the scenes look at the shop.Lol, all kidding aside welcome to the H.A.M.B, if you like old Kustoms and Rods, this is the place.
Welcome to the H.A.M.B. You'll find now that you will not have any spare time for we will keep you occupied. I started being a NASCAR fan in 1958. I saw your dad win at Daytona and got his autograph at a driver's meet in downtown Anniston, AL. I'm sure you too, have the racing blood running through your heart.
Do you know where the Childress shop is? Slide's dad owns a Hot Rod shop across the street from it. Go check him out
I was able to spend a short amount of time in the BUSH series garage with my dad.. and although I'm no longer a nascar fan..those were goo times.. and made for great memory's.. sounds like your still having fun.
I've been to Anniston, Alabama more times than I can remember for the races at Talladega (back when we ran iron heads and production sheet metal). I can already tell that I won't be looking for things to do while I'm on the road. This looks like a lot a fun. - Lake Speed, Jr.
Chandler - I think I've seen that shop when I've been up to RCR. David Watkins built Joe's Ford Coupe. David worked for Hendrick Motorsports back in the Tim Richmond days.
Welcome from San Angelo, Texas! Austin is my second home. Come back for the Lone Star Roundup. The guys at the speed shop may have told ya about it.
also welcome from south Georgia!! tell that new guy Joey to keep it off the roof!! lol, just kidding scary stuff there. It's going to be interesting to watch him as he gets older and what he does.
