Looks like an awesome start. Unload that Chassis to someone and pick up another model A chassis or even a 32 and you'll be ahead of game. I have a ton of work to do on my coupe also and Brookville will be on speed dial for sure. That's you best bet I think.
Nice Ford ,i Just got a 28 coupe yesterday going to change bodys on my roadstar and have a roof and windows , what a deal Does any one know where the Sir. Number is located on the frame. for the 27 to 30 i really need to know where to start looking Thanks and nice Ford
Great Start! Just in time to start your Christmas list. Your right I have seen a lot worse. You need a camera and leave it near the car. If you have kids tell them instead of a gift they can start a scrap book of the build. If they are to young for that have them draw a picture of the car, it may not be great but it will be cool!!
Frame numbers on a Model A are on the top of the left rail under the cowl. Providing they aren't rust pitted away.
Another great resource here on the HAMB is the Model A Hot Rod group. They've got lots of pictures and they're very helpful. Welcome to the club! Ditch the IFS and get those patch panels and you'll be on your way to a sweet lookin' hot rod in no time! Here's the link to the Model A Hot Rod group: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=17
Well I dont mind telling ya I paid $2000 for it.... Thanks for the insight and replies......I was thinking of ordering 32 rails from brooksville but Ill have to make sure I have the body in the right place and the grill where it goes.....I have a place that said I could buy a full rolling29 chasis for $1000 many may remember my find anyway Im not sure yet if Im going to use 32 or the 29.......The guy I bought it from also threw in a ford 8.8 and 2 front fenders they look like 31or 32s and he had one back fender
Hey..Congrats on finding your Coupe. I just recently did the same regarding my 40....been waitin a long time too...so I know how you feel....HAVE FUN!!! Murph
the place where the above pic was taken he also has about 5 flat heads laying around I just need to know what to look for to tell if the block is a builder or a paper weight.....Is there a easy way of telling
Order the book from macs thats a good start.Think they will ship it free to you. I started with this in june 08 and ended with this in june 09. Its how bad you want it to get it done I saved a ton of money doing it all but the wire.
call mike's-affordable.com, i've found them to be the best deal going on prices, but there's howells sheetmetal, and direct sheetmetal . good luck i know how you feel i'm building a 31 tudor and ineed patch panels cowl and roof.
Very nice find, and IMHO a reasonable price. Maybe someone else would like that MII front end. Even though they ride well, for a fenderless rod, not the best in looks. But you can add a crossmember and buggy spring to that frame. 32 Frame thing is overdone to me, I like the A frames. I am working on an Essex Coupe, and your A is in at least as good shape as my Essex. Take your time, make some plans, even if they might change along the way. It will give you a sight for the road ahead. Congrats, enjoy, Perley
Mac's is a fine retailer, also see Snyders and Gaslight. Most parts are made by the same place, and sold by everyone, so look at price. Most catalogs use the same part numbers too. My coupe was like yours too. We all have to start with something, just keep at it, and see it thru to the end, you won't be dissapointed. http://www.mafca.com/suppliers.html and http://www.roadsters.com/ford/ for many other things you may be needing
Nice score!! I like howell's but all the places everyone listed are great also. Like someone said earlier, now the fun begins. Good luck, enjoy the bulid and post the pics.
I've been doing a lot of shopping for a similar coupe and that price seems pretty good to me. Way to jump on it! Have fun with the build. Jay
Sweet, build it your way and don't worry too much about what everyone else wants. I'd agree that loosing the MII front end if you intend to make it fenderless is the way to go. Personally I like the 32 frame and intend to run one if I find a 29 two door body to put on it. <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
