I don't know, but the Shannon cones Draglinkscc has look like they might fit it. What is the measurement across the center where the lugs are?
Them there's the wheel of choice for all ******** rat rodders in Central Florida. We'll forgive you're ignorance for not knowing what you have in your possesion Glenn. These wheels can be purchased from any Pep Lad store for somewhat less than $50 each, they're made by American Racing, and others. If they're not treated to a regular rub down with lard, they'll rust before your very eyes. They go the way of Rosie 'O' Donnells underdunks in very short order. The maximunm humidity they can stand is that given off by a dead squirrel.
Anyone else not surprised that NADS knows both Rosie O'Donnell's undies AND the relative humidity of a dead squirrel??
This was good for a laugh. Yup, Americans. What's the velocity of an "Unladen" Rosie anyway Nads? Is that what killed the squirrel?
Aw yes, lard. Brings back memories of The Countess Cynthia and the bare plastic water bed in San Diego many moons ago. Depraved! pigpen "Slippin' and a slidin', peepin' and a hidin'.... (old song)
I could be mistaken (what's new?) but isn't that the wheel that takes the small 32-35 Ford hub cap? Isn't that a "hat" sticking out from the center? There was a company back in the eighties that made wheels for hot rods that used those hub caps. I just can't remember it's name. (what's new?) I think they came painted or chromed.
Thanks Vic ! I was wondering how long it was going to take before someone noticed that they were not just everyday chrome wheels.........
You got it right Vic! They are Western Smoothies and work great with Shannon Cones. Ran a set for years.
These are the wheels that brought great shame to the tri-county area. The wheels aren't inherently ugly, per se, it's just that they're everywhere, like bums on busy intersections. And just like those bums, they're in a constant state of decay. From the moment that American Racing puts the chrome on these babys, oxygen molecules start eating them like Elvis did Jif and 'nanner sandwiches. If you think the wheels themselves are oxidentally challenged, you oughta see the Chinese made hubcaps that come with them. Sometimes they're rusty right out of the box. If not used in a climate drier than Death Valley these hubcaps start looking the underside of Monica Lewinsky's toilet seat. The other thing to note about the hub caps is the extreme thinness of the metal used. You can crush one of these things against your head easier than a beer can. When installing them you must apply no more than 5 p.s.i of pressure. It's advisable that use a foam rubber pot scrubber to do the job. Any more force than that will dent them. I hate these wheels so much that I've had three sets of them over the years.
Nads.....you should write for a **** website, if you want a job, I'll have my son hire you The wheels are not mine, they belong to our Performance Marketing manager, and he is putting them on his '46 Ford. You know me, Chrome is not my style....
Fluffer? Fluffer? Them's my wheels, and I ain't no fluffer sweetie pie! They give me the fancy **** ***le instead of paying me more...biz cards are cheap. I finally got 'round to joining into this board, so's I ought to be a little more polite...sorry. They're not cheapo Americans, nor are they U.S. Wheel smoothies. So far the best guess is that they are Western or Appliance pieces from the late 80's. I got them, along with a set of 3" cones and a set of big'n'little wide whites for an irresistable price of - - free. Everything is old and grimy - - but has never touched the ground. Chrome's not my normal style either, but dollars talk when you've got two cars to feed. Thanks for the help in figuring out what I have... Now - does anyone know how to get the gray/brown stains off those whitewalls? It almost looks like the color is dying back from contact with the rim.
Oh ****, my bad Barry. But you gotta admit, they're close to the ARs, right? I mean the difference is like the ones between Reo Speedwagon and Journey, or Hunts and Heinz, Oscar Meyer and Ballpark, Yugos and K-Cars.
From what I've been told, most smoothies rims have either "knobs" on the outside of the center or on the inside to hold the hubcap on. These have a small diameter ('bout 6.75") ring in the middle with no knobs, with a pretty deep cup down to where the lugs live. The lug mounting center section appears to be welded into the rim (a 3 piece wheel...). The cone caps have a few knobbers on them to hold them into the center. I don't know that I really trust 'em to stay in place and may add a few dabs of silicone in strategic locations for insurance...
