so , the 56 is off to todds tomorrow for a 5" chop. The plan is to shorten the bed by a few inches too ( on the front side ). The only issue i seem to have is bagged & dropped , or g***er??? Im completely stumped here fellas & could use some convincing one way or another.id be completely happy with either version , unfortunately i have only one truck. Keep in mind , all work , including the cost of the truck was in exchange for tattoos , so cost will not be the issue. Pics of some g***er chevy pickups would be great if anyone has 'em too. Thanks for the help.

I say play with the g***er look, there are lots of bagged and dropped ones already...
I am envisioning something like those chopped 41 willys drag trucks, spoke wheels front, cast color halibrands rear, keep the leafs up front, but use a straight axle in place of the dropped factory one.
no inner fenders, and either fenderwell headers, or zoomies out the front wheel well.
all steel painted interior, with a chrome (or silver) 3 point roll bar, and aluminum seats.
whatever you do finish the paint on the exterior, don't go with the primer look.

If you plan on doing any kind of regular driving, I'd stay away from the g***er theme. They are a handful, to say the least. A nice low stance with a compliant suspension is nice. But, whatever floats YOUR boat!

A 5 inch chop will look like the top is squashed on that truck, there is just to much slab side on the doors for that to look in porportion. Who's going to cut the front and rear curved gl*** ?
Free work or not and ambition or not, you need to think about those things before cutting.

I'm curious about cutting the rear (tempered) curved gl*** myself.
And (even though you didn't ask) more than a couple of inches out of a mid fifties pickup kinda gets to looking out of proportion to me.

BTW a true g***er couldn't be chopped/sectioned more than 4", it's in the rule book.

Isn't that about the same chop as the Kopper Kart? The Kart was also sectioned though...

As for the body , we've been toying with the idea of sectioning , i just want the chop done first to kinda gauge the proportions of the whole thing. As for the gl*** , ive already got a quote from oz , & have that cash tucked away for when the bodywork's finished. Until then i have a chopped lexan windshield for test fitting. As for the work being free??? , i never said free. Hes receiving hour , for hour trade of his services , for my services(which bill @ $180-per hour).....hell , i'll take free though , you know somebody??? Hahaha.

that must be more than 4 inches.

1955 and up trucks don't look right chopped.

  12. I say go g***er style, would be cool if done right. And trading work for work has to be one of the best parts of our hobby.

I guess my memory isn't holding up, that picture is about 15 years old, I know it was a U.S. body source gl*** cab but their site doesn't list a chopped version.

You will be bummed out after you chop it.I promise,if you do like it great but it would really leave you optionless on the style of truck you want imagine trying to look out over that hood after you raise it up in the air for the g***er look. The proportions of the cab in general will make it difficult as well(the floor and seating position)before you cut it man search search search.

Gotta agree with folks about chopping these trucks; they never look quite right to me, it throws off the proportions of the truck. Sectioning definitely helps that though, but is soooooooo much work.

Low is the way to go. Nothing gained by elevating into the offroad arena.

some pics for you: the brown one is a photo chop that I did (it was supposed to have a halloween theme-thus the door b.s.) In the photo chop, I chopped it, sectioned the upper body, and also sectioned the lower body, and extended the back fenders.- that seemed to get everything back into proportion.

the rear window is available reproductoin as saftey plate, not tempered, so it can be cut like the windshield.

look up the hamb user chopolds he had a ton of posts from when they were re -creating the kopper kart.

Maybe 2" would be cool.. but they don't look right with 4" out of them.

No, but something about it makes me want to ask what scale it is. I'm probably wrong, as usual.

    from nowhere...

    It is actually a model...
Build a G***er truck...I did! I confuses people...I like that dumbfounded look in their eyes...
    I did/am doing a '58 Ford.
If anyone says "they didn't do that", tell 'em to piss up a rope...
    I've got photo's of a '57 AWB Ford @ Lion's in '65...there is a thread on here.
The 4" chop is correct, as per the rule book, but I would'nt do it...mid-fifties trucks have good proportions the way they are, and trust me, after taking mine down the track, I'd want as much window to see through as possible...

They get thick and bulky looking with a lot of chop, and its a LOT of work, for very little, IMO, to just take a couple inches out...

They look good dropped, or in drag form...just make its bark match its bite, if you can do it...

    Enjoy, either way...

Eggleston customs out of Iowa built a 56 GMC into a g***er and the thing was way cool. Do a search for him on google and I think you will find his website. He used to have pics of it on there.

I have seen a few chopped but they are usually of the drag strip. I really think its gonna be hard to make it look good if you take out that much. It's not my truck but I would leave the top alone, drop it and drive it, but its yours, you need to do what you want to it.

I also plan on one day building an AWB truck, and am completing a model of one for the scale model buildup (thats why i asked)

The idea of g***er-izing a pickup seems like it would be realitively simple in concept, and would really have the wow factor
