Beautiful car. Bet you're proud to own that one.
Me and every other car modeler wishes that someone would do a '35 kit. Never been produced so far.

The roadster was painted Duplicolor Cadillac Firemist (?) Firethorn(?),,,,,,,,fire something. I built that in the early 90's and I'm amazed I remembered that much.
The wheels on the phaeton are resin chrome reversed with Ford caps from Replicas & Miniatures Co. of Md. The tires are also resin from Reps & Mins.

Does anyone know of a resin Ford 240/300-6 cylinder motor? My next build is a replica of my '81 F350, & I need a 300 for it.

Prior to 1962, dealer promo models were molded in acetate, which is why most of those are VERY warped by now. Yours really wasn't too bad, compared to most from that era. In '62, they started molding promos and car model kits in styrene plastic.

  11. Yeah, I've got 2,000+ promos, so I've got a pretty good idea what they'll respond to. But this particular one had an even different kind of plastic for the interior tub. It's just really flimsy and brittle. I think maybe they did the sedans, and someone said, "we should do a convertible." Then the head guy said, "don't let it cost anymroe than the sedan with no interior!" And they came up with that crappy interior.

Newer ones are easier to work with--that's for sure!

I recently bought this one from a member of the HAMB here, and just finished it, took about 2 weeks to do it, had a blast with it! I think it and the black one I did awhile back make a nice pair! Jim

I'm amazed at your work that '53 looks great.
I have a '52 Ford 4 door sedan that I bought back in the early 1970's at a swap meet for a quarter (25 cents). It was a remote control model that didn't work so I customized it mildly with '62 Rambler hub caps tires and wheel, it didn't have interior just plastic windows so I painted them black on the inside.
By the way the '55 Dodge has a metal chassis also and it has a '60 Chrysler interior and hub caps wheels and tires.

    Cool stuff you guys!

Thank you Gentlemen for the kind remarks. I enjoy the commoraderie on these forums, and have a lot of fun meeting, talking with, and getting to know a little, the folks with similar interests as mine. I am strictly an oval track modeler, although I like most types in general, as long as they're "oldish"! What can I say, I'm an old guy. My race car interests are still a minority in this hobby. It's discouraging to me to be on a forum where my builds are lost and largely ignored amongst the customs, hot rods, lowriders, modern NASCAR, etc. I will leave a comment on any type of build that strikes my fancy. If it's not recipricale then I'll spend my time at Fred's or Randy's site. If people show an interest, not only will I frequent more, but share and interact with everyone! Thanks for the interest, guys, see you next Sunday.

    Later,
    Slim
