Did a bit of research and just need to check that the difference between short and long water pumps will be
    a) the pump
    b) the pulleys

    Anything else?

Will not be running mechanical fan, only water pump and low slung alternator.

    Thanks guys.

Originally, the short pump engines had the generator/alternator on the left side of the engine, hanging out in the breeze, the long pump had it on the right side, tucked in front of the head. The long pump gives more room to put the alternator closer in

Ah thats one of the reasons I was going to do it, seems I have this *** about :(

  5. Also, the corvette short pump has a 3/4 pilot, not the more common 5/8 pilot for the fan and on the short pump alt mounting, the driver exhaust manifold was the lower mounting and when going to headers the cheesy aftermaret " bent steel" brackets have a history of breaking, but if your cylinder heads have the holes in them, then you can use corvette short pump (thru '81) alt mounting as it bolts to the front of the head and are avaliable in steel or aluminum.

Fellas, no reason to seek out Vette brackets. The 69-72 trucks used a similar bracket and they are common and cheap. Here's one on my 327.

If you have the room the long pump is better. It has more options for brackets, pulleys and easier to source. If not go short.

anyone have a different factory genny setup than off the exhaust manifold?? I'd like to run hood sides on my 32 but that's not gonna happen with a generator hanging in the breeze.

You might not care about this, but the short pump is considerably lighter than the long pump.
Thanks for the tip, Ayers Garage, I'll be looking for one of those brackets now.

I"m wondering what exhaust you use

  15. Yep, same bracket, just called "vette bracket" like a lot of things as they are used in several other applications and of course the vette from 79-81 used a similar bracket except it is aluminum which may or may not help with the style.

Sorry for the busy picture, this is a powdercoating job I did for someone. You can see the upper alternator bracket in there too as well as the lower bracket if you look hard in the picture. It's generic 69-72 truck stuff. Dirt cheap to buy.

I am running a short pump with an early wc4d intake with the oil filler tube on the front. I like this bracket but wonder if it will clear the fill tube?

The short pump is 1 and 3/8ths of a inch shorter than the long pump.

The Alan Grove bracket sits the alternator up a little and also moves it closer to the center of the engine. I had one on my 40 Ford with a SBC. Great bracket at a very reasonable price. :D :D

Nothing fancy..just made two brackets. Had no room left or right..and the nose narrows so much up front. This was the only way..

Short or long pump. That's what I've been looking for. Who is the supplier?
