"Too nice" to cut up? My economics mentor would disagree. Cutting up a good body is good for all concerned. It reduces the number available, increasing the resale value of all others.:D

I'm in the market for a Model A body to go with my new project. I'll take anything, the nicer the better.

You are doing a great job on that car. Cutting up a unmolested car is OK in my book. You did it right the first time and that's great.

There are many model A 's out here that have already been butchered up and they are asking ridiculous money for them.

What people are asking for crappy bodies here in Ca. I would buy a nice stocker like you did and would have gone the same route that you did.

I prefer to start with a decent body and build off of it. The time and money spent on fixing other peoples crap is just not worth it to me.

The floors and sub-rails are finished and give the illusion of a stock non-channeled floor. It'll keep em looking until it is covered with carpet.

Cool! I really like that style floor/channel. My coupe will be getting something similar.

I would of loved to of started with a perfect car like that. It would make everything ten times easier and I'd probably be on the road by now. You took a perfect car and made it better. Great job

  7. Can't agree more! Why build a hot rod out of a pile of rusty parts when you can start with a clean one, plus all of the restorers got a boatload of stuff they needed!!

While i have a hard time with the concept of cutting up a real nice car like that, in the end, the owner is free to do as he pleases. No different than if someone were to take one of the two cars in billthx138's avitar and cut it up and transform it into a rat rod. That's the benefit of ownership. While it's non of my business, it IS nice to see that it's being done well and the reality is that a well built "A" rod is worth more than a well restored one, just check the selling prices on evilbay.

they dont make em like that in the midwest they usually look like swiss cheese when you find them here

  16. Nice.

There is no assurance that a really nice restored car was nicely restored. Until you get the paint off.

Sure is first class. The slight channel on deuce rails is the popular set up. 4" chop is just right. Very nice car, nice that you started out with such a fine body. Keep us posted.

Very nice lines...the engine mounts might be happier
if the two brackets were tied together. Torque can be a bit of a troublemaker sometimes.

nice build so far! i like the idea of selling off the extra stock parts and only being 1500.00 into what you kept. a good freind did this same thing and has a very nice early style high-boy with juice brakes and a warmed-up flattie. car looks great and build time was minimal. i've seen lots of guys buy bodies that were rough as a cob, then spend 10k & 2 yrs at the body shop. "me be pretty one day!"

Just got home from So-Cal shop and Sr showed me a hot rod magazine from Germany that covered the So-Cal open house. There was a photo of the coupe with a caption I couldn't read. Anyway it is still cool to get a car in a magazine.

  25. Just saw this, best to leave politics outta this bud. I did what I wanted with my comment and actually was looking for responses through reverse psychology.... it worked :p:p:p.

I think he is doing the car properly and I appreciate him selling the stock parts off for a future restoration. My point is that he only used the coupe body from a great restored car. Spent a bunch of time, money, effort, metalworking in getting it to where he has it. He would have had as much work into another body from an unrestored car or had he just found a body itself.

Restorations are just as hard/time consuming as hot rodding. Trying to find all the correct parts for the month a car came off the assembly line and having them all "REAL ORIGINAL PARTS" can be harder/just as costly as finding the hens teeth of speed parts for whatever you are building.

In the end its all about getting out there on the road and enjoying your own damn car.-Weeks

I hate when people say this, since when is it our goal to make hot rodding as a hobby more expencive. I couldent care how little or alot they are worth I build hot rods because its fun and its what I enjoy doing, the more bodies out there the better. As for the car, it is a great looking car good job. I would have started the build difrently but it is your car and it is becoming a great hot rod. Keep us posted on the progres.

Bill, I love the floor treatment. I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out the best way to drop my body over the duece rails slightly. My frame is still at stock 32 width. Do you have the frame measurements you used on hard copy? Also I'd like to see some pics of the bottom view of your floor/subrails.
    Thanks,

    Ralph

I gotta agree. Some cars shouldn't get cut up. This was one of them.

Are you serious? Give it up already. It's his car and his prerogative. What have either of you done that makes you think you can knock his build?
