The only shot I saw of your car was when you cruised past the camera, when they were talking about the action at the hotel parking lots. You looked the other way as you went by.
Who were the guys on the salt, in the Model A sedan with the big HAMB logo on the side, and "SLO POKS" on the back?
That was a really cool show! I've been to Bonneville several times, but just not during Speed Week! I'm going to Bonneville in '10 for the first time to watch the runs - and to spend my birthday there, so I was really digging the entire program. Barry always laughs as he talks, which is kinda strange to me; but the guy loves what he's doing, and doesn't mind showing it! I'm gonna spectate in '10, and hopefully have a car together to run the salt in '11.
Soon after Denise drives by there is a shot of the parking lot with cars and two kids (brown straw hat and a white hat) walking in the background- that Gray and Chase, then just a little later is Ethan that Ben took to the salt for his HS graduation. I was so glad that Chelsea Lately was rerun and that Speed is one channel down, so caught it and woke the boys up to see it. Don's car looked good. MissyD (wife and secretary)
You know...whenever I occasionally slip, and make a disparaging remark about someone, whether it's here, or in my everyday life, I regret it. I'm sure that Barry is a genuinely nice person. I actually can tell that from watching him on his show. And if you guys that have met him concur on that count, I certainly believe you, and it proves that he's not a "fake". I feel bad, and I want to apologize for adding to the negative comments. There's no need for it, and it influences the whole room in a bad way. For a while, my signature was, If you dont have anything nice to say think of something! I better start taking my own advice. I want to thank those that pointed out that some of us have made some unnecessary remarks about a nice man...including you, Denise. I've got to say though...I've seen you call people "Troll-Tards" in the past, just because they posted something kinda...we'll say, dumb. So be careful about taking the moral high ground...we're all capable of it. I don't consider myself to be a hater at all. I truly value the good that people share more than anything in life. But this just goes to show how easy it is to jump on the band-wagon...too easy. That's one of the reasons why I like this place...we're all learning from each other...and about more than just how to build a hot rod. This is a community, and for any of us that cares at all...we're learning, and re-learning "how to act"...to say please and thankyou, and don't hit the other kids! Anyway...I'm sorry. I'm an ***...I'm a sorry-***! - Rick
No high moral ground here bud. I usually call someone out as being a troll, and posting that icon, because it is what I suspect of them. You do know that there are internet trolls out there that get their kicks from posting stupid drama enticing threads on the HAMB then going back to other websites and "laughing" about the ensuing results. These can usually be identified by a very recent join date and very low post count. Also, I have called people ***holes, idiots, whatever, and it's usually because I have personal experience with them being such and if they publicly make a statement that verifies this then yep sometimes I've been known to call them out. AND I've called people out that time and time again make the stupidest comments, suggestions and questions. Like the one guy stating he got some used motor oil from a buddy and would it be alright to use it to break in his brand new motor! The same dude ALWAYS had the stupidest questions, suggestions and answers. Yep, complete idiot. Here's a perfect example on the first page right now...idiot and troll rolled into one?? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=419164&showall=1 There are current memebers on here now that have "calmed down" after posting a BUNCH of stupid stuff as newbies, getting called out about it, then chilled out, and are now productive members of the board. I could name names but they know who they are. I'd also like to mention that calling someone out, straight to them on a thread, for a stupid comment or whatever is ALOT different then making fun of someone behind their back. I know you didn't mean it, and some of the others probably didn't either. On the flip side some probably could care less about others feelings, the old HAMB is alive and well still, but what about if Barry is a lurker here and is reading these comments about him, comments that he really has no control over. I mean his teeth are his teeth and yes he smiles alot, but so do alot of people who are genuinely happy with their lives and wouldn't you be happy if you could do what he does for a living? I know I would. To be able to make a living in the industry meeting cool car people and seeing neat hot rod related stuff and being able to share those experiences with others..... thats what hot rod dreams are made of, or at least mine are. I really respect the man, he's a great business man and spokesperson for this industry. We can talk more about stupid HAMB questions over the years over a couple of cold ones at the Detroit Autorama in Feb. WOW, talk about a thread getting hijacked! Back to B'ville!
Well said. I met him in the parking lot at the hotel in B-ville this year, and he seemed genuine to me. He was friendly and not aloof or anything. I don't see anything wrong with being "Car Crazy">>>>>>>>>>>>>
I went to the web site of Car Crazy to see if the 12:30 am Mon 11/23 Pacific meant 9:30pm Sun 11/22 Eastern or if the schedule was different as it sometimes is. But I coul;dn't find their broadcast schedule. Can anybody offer a hint? I caught part of the show the other night, it was about half over and I did see Denise and Big Olds and asked her about it on another thread later. Hope someone can tell me how to find their broadcast schedule! The more I can see now the more informed for the caravan some of the S.F.C.C. members are tentavely planning from the Atlanta area next year. Dave
Hey DIRTY, When it's 12:30 in the morning (night) in the Pacific time zone, it's 3:30AM in the Eastern Time Zone. Hope that helps, as always, check your local listings before setting your recorder.
""thank you , I agree and have met dennis gage at daytona a couple times he was a great guy ..if it were'nt for those shows what would we watch on the t.v.? I mean really not as many car programs left these days, the 2 guys infomercial (garage) or a couple on spike weekends if we get lucky ..soooo just saying .
I just set the DVR for Sunday morning at 8am EST also listed 3:30 AM EST Monday morning then again 3:00 PM EST Monday afternoon Looking forward to seeing you and the rest of the SF on the Salt next Aug.
Yeah, you're correct, Iguess I was thinking in reverse when I was figuring that. But I still haven't figured out how to fin the damn schedule on the Car Crazy site. Dave
Denise, I'll spell it out for you...bud. It's hypocritical to engage in name-calling, then refer to others as "haters".
I wonder if they got the footage of me "Pie-facing" the camera, walking down from the hotel's top deck and directly behind Barry at the casino. It'd be great if that made it...ha ha
Dirty: go to: www.carcrazycentral.com Click on 'TV SHOWS' on the tool bar at the top of the home page. You will see the recent shows listed in the column on the right side.
Just saw the show. It showed Denise in the nugget parking lot. It was Steve VanBlarcom's Pontiac towing his roadster at the end of the show. It was good, showed the excitment, the need for speed and why we go back there year after year. No dramatic crashes, but the show was dedicated to the memory of Barry Bryant.
I think Barry was humbled by the Bonniville experiance as many of us have been. He is a cool guy and is difinatly CAR CRAZY
There were ALOT of HAMB guys and HAMB cars on the program. Greazy's '40 looked cool cruising on the Salt and HRR Troy was dreamy. I thought the Car Crazy crew did a much better job on portraying Speed Week then Discovery did last year.....and they did it with a program that was half the length.
I think Barry Meguiar has done more for the car hobby than 99.9% of the people on this planet! I'd like to see the nuckle-draggers and mouth-breathers who feel inclined to knock his personality or appearance get thier own TV show and try to do better!
Neat show........and he did capture the spirit of Bonneville. I like the GIANT "HAMB" logo on the side of that Model A. Chris
I don't get haters either! I'm old enough to remember when there were NO automotive shows on TV at all! So, maybe Barry doesn't do stuff specifically for you every week. Too bad. The show is designed to cover a wide range of automotive topics. I'm just glad we've got shows like Car Crazy and My Cl***ic Car at all. I've never meet Barry McGuire but I've met Dennis Gage on two occasions. (one was over lunch!) I thought he was a nice guy who genuinely loves this crazy hobby of ours.
This time I made sure I set the dvr for the next showing of the show. Maybe I'll get to watch it yet. I've always enjoyed the Car Crazy shows even if the topic or event of the day wasn't on my top three list. As for liking or not liking something or one of the celebs on Tv closed minds make for very boring people in real life. The most boring people I know have one track minds and have little or no interest in anything else except what spins their wheels. I have to agree with Denise too in that we seem to have those on here that only seem to be here so that they can look for something to make a negative or off the wall comment on outside of making their 50th. "Rad car dude", post without any other positive contribution. <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
Been a while since I stopped by the forum, and the first thread I read was the Bonneville one, because I saw the show and got a kick out of seeing Big Olds and DRD's deuce on there. As I read all those adolescent negative comments right up front, I just shook my head and was about to go ahead and exit out of the forum. Then, happily, I saw someone actually sticking up for Barry, and for the show. Then more people who could see daylight chimed in. You know, there's nothing wrong with a little at***ude, but some of the members are an embarr***ment. Glad to see the positive side of the group come out into the open. Oh yeah, and how about, before you go off about how much you hate someone, you at least know what they look like and who you are talking about? sheesh. Let the flaming begin
the show was pretty good, much better than the one on descovery a few months back. i've met barry a couple times as well and once you get over the kinda george hamilton with a.d.d. deal that he's got going on he is a great guy, he's got to have some personality to be on tv and that overly excited hyped up stuff works for him. he's loves cars but more than that he seems to just enjoy talking with people. we gave him some **** that night in the hotel parking lot about stalling the roadster a few times pulling off the line but it was all in good humor and he was laughing with us. "what's this extra pedal for" i would like to see what he has in his personal collection, don't think i've ever heard him mention to much about it on the show, but he's got to have some good stuff? there was a bunch off hambers in that show, i was even in the back off a couple shots, they are probably lucky i wasn't in a close up or there'd be alot of broken tv's
