I'm looking for an extremely dark blue non metallic paint color for my coupe. I saw a car at the grand national roadster show a few years ago that was so dark a blue that it was black until you were on top of it, even under the show lights. I'm sure it was a special mix but I was wondering if anyone has seen a factory color or mix that would be comparable? Any help or direction would be appreciated. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=409232
Check out the dark blue that's on a new Audi or Mercedes. Paint the car black first, if you really want things dark then spray on the blue.
My '40 coupe is painted a DARK, non-metalic blue that almost matches your description. In the late evening, it can be mistaken for black. The car was painted in '86. All I remember about the color is that it was an '80s Chrysler color. Sorry I can't help ya any more than that. DD
My '47 is Ford Washington Blue. Most people, unless it's in extremely bright sunlight, think it's black.
My '40 coupe is painted a DARK blue non-metalic which pretty well matches your description. In the late afternoon hours, it looks black. The car was painted in '86. The only thing I remember about the color is that it was an '80s Chrysler color. Sorry I can't be of any more help. DD
this is also pretty close to a washington blue. through a little bit more black in it to darken it up a tad. the frame is black on this truck
Ford had a very dark blue that was a popular color on '65 LTD's, pretty close to the old Washington blue if not a perfect match for it.
Late 70's early 80's Porsche 911s came in a blue that was a shade above black. One of moms exs had one back in the day, and I always liked the color. Very similar to Arkiehotrods 47' in color and finish.
Check out 1982 Chevrolet Pickups in the color chart. They had a non-metallic dark blue that is really nice. The color was overlooked as most of the time it was two toned with with the light metallic blue....And neither of the colors stuck to the primer long enough for people to appreciate them with warranty problems! My dad bought a '82 short box, step-side, dark blue. It was really a nice looking color, similar to the Washington blue above.
I think that both DuPont and HOK make a blue that's kind of a 'candy' blue over a black base. Gives up the blue ONLY under intense light.
1999 Mercedes midnight blue. This is a non metallic blue sprayed over a light grey primer. The owner wanted black, I said no, because the 32 3 window I built last was black, so he picked this. Dave
Street Scene -- November 'o9 -- Page 28 --- 1934 "Washington Blue" the real one----Downright beautiful-- Original to "original" Fords, ie; The other original Ford colors were also just as beautiful/PURDY ....Examples the GREEN,Tan,black,red....All awesome colors
Damb, you had the same idea as I wanting to keep the frame black and the body the dark blue. Truck looks awsome, and in the photo is as close as I have seen the color needed. Do you recall the blue that you started with before adding black? Thanks
In the mid 1950s Mercedes Benz used a color called DB 904 on their top of the line Convertibles. It is my favorite dark, dark blue and very elegant. The Dupont color code is W 8766
My Tudor. Dark blue DuPont Chroma One custom mix with a black frame and grille. People always mistake it for black. Look through some color books. if you find a color you like even with metallic or pearl in it, you can have it mixed without it being added.
77-78 Mercury/Tbird/Lincoln Midnight Blue. Do it over black and you'll be in love. Can't get it? Early 80's Chrysler Nigh****ch Blue. Samey, samey, do it over black. Those are both a dead ringer for Packard Blue (yes a real color) and as I've posted before it's the darkest ***y lookin blue you can ask for, the original formula was all Prussian Blue tint and clear "binder". Most all Packards until 47 were painted over black for depth and as a final body inspection before color went on. Trust me, you'll love it if you want the darkest blue there is.
