For the first time ever, Detroits Autorama is welcoming Rat rods and traditional hot rods to show and compete or just be viewed by the public. The powers that be are going to open up the original hall that the first Autorama was held in! this is a big deal. The table turnin, strobe light show guys are opening up there doors to us to show the public what is happening in the hot rodding world. If you would like to be a part of this historical event, read over the flyer shown here and send in your info along with pictures of you rod. for you show guys there are new classes to choose from directed towards traditional and rat rods and customs. Period corect traditional cars wont be competing against rusted bare bones rat rods and so on. HAlf of the arena is rods and the other half is sport compacts... Hey at least we get to check out all there jap girls. If your one of the gripe asses that wants to bitch about how real hot rods dont belong in shows, and screw the system! dont waste my time. You are the same idiots that bitched about people callin your car a ratrod four years ago when you should have been happy that the magazines and the general public were finally getting it. I dont compete with my own cars cause thats not what mine are built for, I do however enjoy showing people who dont know the difference whats out there in the under $20,000 range, and drivible. Custom home made trophies are bieng welded together right now, and other actions are bieng made to make this part of the show cater to us. thank you, Joshua Shaw.
I don't have a rat-rod but I like the way you proactively prevented the Drama Queens from crapping all over your message. I'll be there to check out the ratters. BTW, are you the famous Josh Shaw of the famous Ohio Flames style?
Hi, Josh...I have only one thing to complain about--you spelled Deuce wrong! Damn artist types! You musta hung around Dixey too long a couple years ago!!!
March 4-6, 2005 From what I understand the traditional hot rods and customs fitting the "rat rod" style/theme will be located on the lower level of Cobo Hall. In the 70's this is where they showed the vans and bikes. The lower level hasn't been used during the Autorama in many, many years. There will still be approx 700 cars on the main level. A short history lesson, the Detroit Autorama first started out in the University of Detroit Memorial Building, then vacillated between the State Fairgrounds and the Detroit Armory, and finally settled into downtown's new Cobo Hall in 1961. Cobo Hall an awesome location for a indoor show and I urge everyone who's "into" traditional hot rods and customs to come and support the "new" venue downstairs. While here, please find one of the powers that be and tell him exactly why you attended and that you want to see more traditional types of hot rods at their shows in the future.
Hey Josh and Denise. Would my Vert be in that class or does it have too many "creature features" to be included. I built it in the 50's style but added all kinds of comfort for my OLD body. Shit, it don't make no never mind anyway, I got no way to get it over there. I ain't gonna drive it over in March and then have to clean it up after running through a blizzard in Chicago. As Emily Latilla used to say " NEVER MIND" B B
[ QUOTE ] where's the flyer? [/ QUOTE ] Josh, if you need help posting it, just ask or you can email it to me and I'll post it for you.
Awesome- I'll be there checkin' it out! If anyone is hesitant about entering the show-- I had a car in there a few years back-- and there's nothing like it!! It was an awesome experience. Hopefully I'll have my wagon in there 'round '06...
if you go to www.autorama.com it tells about the show but I didnt see anything about this. If you go to the "enter you car " then to "detroit" it tells more about the show
I went on the site and I didn't see anything about Rat Rods anywhere. I go there every year and if they are going to be there cool . Where did you get your info.
This is something BRAND new, it was just "approved" so to speak. The info is good. Josh is a personal friend of Race's and Race works for Championship Auto Shows which actually owns the Autorama. The decision regarding whether to have the "rat rods" had to be "approved" though by the Michigan Hot Rod Assoc (MHRA) which actually "runs" the show. Hopefully the website will be updated or Josh will come back with the flyer. There is still plenty of time. FYI, if you do plan on driving your car here to show, there is indoor water and hoses to get the road grime off.
I E-mailed Race the flyer, The spelling of duece is an inside joke, but what are editors for? From this point on Refer to Hotrodladycruser for info, She is very knowledgable and will get you all were you need to be. Also, Call Races Ass out to be a MexiCAN, not a MexiCANT. He knows more than anyone. I'm just getting the ball rolling. BSM FOR LIFE> Joshua Shaw... Yea I set lots of shit on fire... Cars, People, nything that will sit still.

[/ QUOTE ] Your hot rod has so much character just the way it is, I would hate to add ANYTHING to it. Seriously, I sure hope you do whatever is necessary to bring yours here. It would be a HUGE asset to the show.
[ QUOTE ] Road grime adds character to a RAT ROD doesnt it? [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, but this is downtown-Detroit-fresh-after-winter grime... I wouldn't wish that horror on anybody. Trailering is the way to go, especially since you have to wait in line, outside, for up to a few hours before you can get your car inside and set up. If your rod doesn have heat... well, hope you have some blankets. With them using the other floor of the building though, they may have a separate entrance that will allow you to not have to wait in the main line... dunno.
In my opinion driving is the way to go.If you drive you can go right inside. you dont have to wait in line.
It will be interesting to see how this show turns out....With any luck, the Larrivees will apply the same thinking to the Houston show. There are more non-related vendors and dealers than cars to appreciate...the last few years have been dismal with imports.
The Auto Rama does now have classes for the Tradional and and 'Rat' Rods. The local promoter here in SLC was one of the guys trying to get those classes accepted. We put our cars in the Salt Lake Auto Rama last year. I'm not big on doing car shows, but this one was fun! We won best club display. We are going to do it again this year. You guys need to do the Auto Rama if you can....
good! i think its about time cars like ours a more widly accepted in shows. here in cali, we have so many cool little shows, we dont sweat the big ones.
