hi there. this is my 1st build and all that wood is a challenge! 27 chevy 302 ford 9" rear c6 three speed ****** i am in the process of putting a steel skeleton where all that wood was as well as replacing rotted panels. 6"chop and 4" channel
i am going to go look at a complete 47 ford axle today. wish me luck i really want this to work out...
I do not agree with complete cleaning before slaving everything together, it's a waste of good time. Grind the area to be tack-welded, the rest can wait.
I had a 26 that had the wood replaced by steel. They used 3/4 square tube for a lot of it and it, and lots of cut-to-curve 1X4 tubing, that worked very well. They are a really small truck when together-I think the average size person in the 20's and 30's must have been about 5'7" or so.
Keep us updated! There are more and more rods being built ,from early Chevrolets, on the HAMB these days.
Cool! Just this week I've been out tinkering with a couple of abandoned '27-ish Chevy projects I've had laying around for a few years. I like what you're doing and will be watching what you build for a sub-structure to get ideas on how I will do mine. Jay
Yep, channel first, three to five inches, get the radiator down first, where it looks good, then...................
BILLY...my hats off to you SIR, man a ford mill. i love it. and if you don't mind me saying. know would be a good time to do away with the wood. i see your an older gent. like myself 68. and i'am sure you will understand my good intentions! yes! my 29 ford had wood frame and floors. she burned too the ground. good luck with you project...POP.
I like those old Chevy trucks. All that wood ****s though. Ford engine... HA. That ought to piss off the Bowtie faithfuls. Kevin Ooltewah Speed Shop
