Howdy! I'm new here. I have gotten a lot of static and shame with this idea, but I'm sure it's a cl***ic-style hot-rodding masterpiece. I've got a 1963 Ford Fairlane, totally base model (like, completely base model, not one cent more than necessary was ever paid for it). I can get a low priced 1960 F-100, half restored. What I want to do is to put the F-100's 312 Y-Block and rear axle's gearing into the Ford Fairlane, and I want to know if anyone has ever done anything like this before, or has any ideas for making it happen. And, as I have been asked before, I am indeed a memeber of the fairlane club of america, and they hate the idea. As far as most of them are concerned, only windsors and FEs belong in Fairlanes/Torinos, no exceptions. But this idea is the epitome of hotrodding! (or so I keep telling myself). A cl***ic V8, in a budget vehicle, using what I have, not what could ideally be done, if I had a pot of gold and my own metal shop. Thoughts?
id say with a post like this i would need some pictures. Do what you like and hell with what they think. ya sure i would love to see a 428 in it but not everyone can find one for a good price. use what you can and have fun doing it that is how i work.
dear jester its been done already and by the ford motor co go to the Y block club (in social groups) then follow the thread ohc Y blocks and you will see the most amazing Y blocks in falcons and other stuff as well welcome to the hamb cheers oggie
Ah, I happen to be a part of several communities specializing in the Y-Block, and a 1960 or 1961 falcon is a common but non original swap. However, in 1962 we the entire for line was redesigned, and the Fairlane changed into something totally different. I have seen some work with 67 Falcons, but the falcon is a different beast than the Fairlane, as I have seen. Wider shock towers, stubbier engine compartment than the Fairlane.
Welcome to the HAMB! Got your pm last night from that "other" site,I'm glad to see you here! Enjoy the Ride!!
Why not be really original and put a flathead V8 in the fairlane. It's closer to the design / weight target of the original car. No less retarded. Y-blocks are 200 pounds heavier than 260 - 289, but I don't have to tell you that. Maybe a Cadillac flathead?? Perhaps a Packard V8??? I know, a '59 International V8 would be perfect. PERFECT! OK, I'm out.
I thought of that, and yeah, that would be awesome (even more so than a Y-Block), but I can't get a Flathead, I can get a Y-Block for 300 bucks. Shipping to my location is almost 2000 dollars for an engine.
