It seems like all the best car/truck deals are always so far away from me......Does anyone know of hauling companies online that I can look up to see how much it would cost to ship a car? Seems like I have seen some posts for folks traveling with room, but wondered if anyone has used any shippers out there?
There lots of people and companies doing this but they are not all created equal. I would recommend getting references, make sure they are properly bonded and insured and remember "the best price is not always trhe best deal" Hemmings Motor News would have many listed therein and I would think an internet search would turn up some results. I do know that there are brokers who hook up buyers and shippers, you aren't always dealing with the principals when inquiring.
We shipped our daughters Eclipse from Indiana to California in 2008 and it cost us a little under $500. We used D.A.S. (Dependable Auto Shippers). It's cheaper if the car runs and you drop it off and pick it up from one of their "hubs". In our case, the drop off was about 40 miles away, and the pickup was about 20. Not too bad, I thought. Dan
I shipped 2 vehicles from California to Florida in 2006. I used FedEx Auto Transport. At the time it was $2500 for both vehicles enclosed. Not cheap but I wanted enclosed. Took about 8 days. Vehicles arrived in perfect shape. Alot of good advice above, I used FedEx based on a friends reference.
Thanks for the input, I have a local guy I used for stuff around here, and it works out very well. Cheappolok, I am going to look into those guys...there is a truck on the sale block here on the HAMB that I would love to own.....really need it like i need a hole in the head...with 2 project rides going on right now.....but if i could get it shipped here cheaply i would buy it up.
I used these guys http://www.btexpressauto.com/ and paid $1000 for a nonop car with no brakes, in an open carrier.
Jim Guinn in Nocona, TX does a great job, as well. He is a Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club member and hauls nationwide. (940) 825-4043
Thanks for the props folks. I've hauled hundreds of cars for Hambers worldwide and there are several more reputable haulers listed in the Hamb-O'Dex forum. PM me some details on the car and the exact destinations and I'll be happy to do what I can to help or refer you to someone that can.
generally with hauling you get what you pay for, unless it's one guy with a single or two car hauler. DAS there's plenty of horror stories about. Make sure you talk directly to your hauler and not to an agent or dispatcher. Many times a company will quote you, then put that rate out and your car may go from A to C on one truck, C to D on another one, D to E on a third, then sit waiting for someone willing to take it to you at B for whatever is left of the amount they quoted you.

I used DAS to bring our truck from Texas to MD (think it was about $1200 all said and done). They weren't bad, they also weren't great and the price was about average within the big shipping companies. My take, if it's not in great condition to begin with, these guys probably won't do anything to it and it's safe. If it's something you truly cherish and care about I would opt for one of the guys through the HAMB that you can trust.
