This picture had been my wallpaper for a couple of days now... Started searching around the internet and rolled across this site http://www.tractorshed.com/piclist_1.htm - there are about a million pictures of old tractors posted on this site.
When I was a kid I mocked up an old tractor hood and some tires. I had lots of fun racing it (in my mind). A good 8N hood and grill could be hard to find. Does anyone make reproductions?
try tractor supply, I know they sell some repro parts... although for that style a ford 9n, 2n or 8n (they are all basically the same in form and shape, also the early ferguson tractors are the same as Ferguson and Ford were in business together until they had a falling out and ferguson went on to produce basically the same tractor..haha)..., and possibly some of the ford jubellee tractor hoods and grills would look sweet, especially the jubellee...it would give you a cool, art-deco look I think, with the big medallion top-center on the grill. Anyways, there are tons of repro parts to be had for all tractors today, especially the 9 thru 8n Ford tractors. A good mag to pick up would be Antique Power, it's real sweet and has a huge classified page section in the back. Hope that helps someone! I love tractors, especially Farmalls, they can out pull a similar vintage Jonny POOPer deere any day! haha, I love my 1938 F-20...anyways, off topic, but now I know what my future modified may look like!
I've been thinking about this very thing since I came across this a couple months ago. I don't much care for the tractor part, but that "hood" and grill look like they are ready to go.
Dennis carpenter repops the 8N type grille. I sold this Fergy at Chickasha. Cool because the whole thing tilts foreward.
Briggs, that's a nice looking B ya got there. I love those old B's, crank the wheel, hit one of the brakes and you can do some killer donuts Farmall

From the local tractor shop you can pick up a 8n grill for about 25 bucks. I rebuild a 8n and a 9n about 2 years ago. What i am looking for to build a grill out for the roadster project is a 1938 John Deere deluxe styled grill. OK so i married a farmers daughter. LOL B&S is that a H or a super H
That freakin rules. Our family used to be pretty big into the antique tractor scene. My grandma still has all the tractors she and grandpa ever farmed with. All MM except for a '29 Irish Fordson. The MMs are an R, an R with a factory cab, ZB, ZA, UB and a Z. The coolest thing about the family farm for me growing up, was the '53 UB was the newest tractor they EVER farmed with! I was 13 in 1983 when we stopped farming ourselves when my uncle got cancer. Then we rented out the fields and restored all the tractors and my uncle took them to tractor shows until he died in 1985. Here's the cab tractor. The fan let go and went through the radiator about 7 years ago. Dad decided it was time to pull it out of the barn and fix it.
Roaddevil, that is a "B" Farmall, very similar to an A, with the exception of wide front end and the axle housing on the rear is longer, so you aren't as likely to tip over. Farmall
The coolest tractor I've ever seen was an Oliver track type. Looks like a P-38 fighter plane without wings, hopefully someone can find and post a photo.
Funk conversion. Do a search 8N V8 and you come up with lots of these. M&W Gear Co made a splitter that went between the trans and rear end to give you 8 gears as well. Somewhere I have a pic saved of an 8N with an early Caddy flathead. Here you go.
Just think of how much stuff you could cut down with a hundred horses! Also think how many parts you could break!
heeeeyyyyyy.... the steering in those V8 tractors. Is that stock? It looks like a sprint car setup. think I may have to look for one now. dan
The Oliver that Roaddevil posted is what they call an Orchard version. It has the fairings on the sides and wheels so it can work in fruit orchards without damaging the tree limbs. Quite a rare model and much sought after by restorers. Frank
That Oliver orchard version looks like it's ready for Bonneville. Now that's somthing to think about... r
Not trad, but a friend repowered a big Oliver from the 50's with a 400 sbc, built a cab with heat and equipped it with a 5 foot wide two stage snowblower that's powered by a Toyota engine of some sort. Serious snow removal. A few years ago he put a Subaru 4 cyl in a garden tractor...that puppy hauls ass. Charlie
I've been looking for a local source for the V-8 conversion... I could get the grass cut in record time... BTW the outlaws have a few 2N/8N's rusting out in the back 40... Could check to see if the cowls are any good...
i had looked into that v8 conversion and was told its all homedone stuff...not a kit... im assuming you mean flathead v8 in an 8n/9n? just what i was told by a tractor guy zach
Some people make their V8 kits but back in the 50's the Funk Aircraft Co. offered a conversion kit to swap in either a flathead I6 or V8 into the 4 cylinder 8N tractor. The kit also raised the hood and I think lengthened the tractor. They are highly sought after by restorers today. The steering is stock. The steering box is at the bottom of the column, and it has a pitman arm on each side. If you notice there is a drag link down each side of the tractor. There is a little info here http://www.ytmag.com/fordnclub/funk.htm for those that desire more.
