I've been searching on the internet for a place to buy weatherstriping for my car.

    I've found this place:

    http://www.hamptoncoach.com

They seem to have what I need - or close to it. The extrusions they offer look pretty much the same as what was on the doors to begin with..... tho what's remaining is pretty rotten and very flat, kind of hard to tell what the profile looks like.

    The questions I have are:

    Is $3.25 - $4.00 a foot a normal price?

Is it absolutely necessarly to find the exact replacement weatherstriping for my car in order to have it function properly? Is there "generic" stuff that works just as good?

Is there any other place - local in So Calif - where I can go and buy this junk rather than play shipping games? Shipping this stuff is adding over $30 to the total price.

I don't imagine that the stuff will come with instructions (maybe it will) - so how does one stick the stuff onto the doors? Silicone? Just lick it and it will stick?

Need a quick response - need to get this resolved before it starts raining... car will leak and this is a bad thing.

  6. FG, I do remember your Cad now. I think Steele Rubber is your best bet and I think most of there stuff does come with some kind of instructions. You can handle it, its really no big deal.

I would try JC Whitney I purchased all of the weatherstripping I needed for my 49 Packard through them. They have good quality and a wide selection so you can get something that will match closely. The only thing they didn't have was the vent window weatherstripping pieces which are preformed for each car. I am not using the vent windows so Ihad no problems. I you can also get window channel and belt stripping through them as well. I believe you can call them and they will send you a sample piece so you can be sure it will work before you buy it. Their prices are very good as well. Shawn

    becca,

don't know if you've already installed your weatherstripping yet, but all my friends swear by some stuff they all call gorilla snot to glue it in with. i don't know what the real name of the stuff is. it may be gorilla snot for all i know. i've never done any weatherstripping, so i can't say from my experience. sorry if this is too late, but it may help someone somewhere.

anyone out there know what this is actually called?

It's the 3M yellow trim adhesive. Yellow is the key to the snot nickname.
