Electric power - cowl steering - disability

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chopshop13, Nov 26, 2009.

  1. As im a disabled driver with limited arm strength, i must run power steering in my Model A coupe.

I want to run an electric power steer pump in the boot but i dont know what steering box i should run. Does anyone have any thoughts?

One other thing, im in New Zealand so we dont have a great supply of american car parts and we drive on the other side of the road down here, so go figure.

    Any help apreciated.

  2. Oops did i mention i want it setup for cowl steering? Sweet

What about adapting an POWER STEERING CONTROL UNIT FOR 06 07 SATURN ION.
I searched ebay and a used unit is "buy it now" for $129
    I searched using "steering electric"

It seems they are an electric drive motor that attaches to the steering column under the dash and ***ists your turns.

Seems the way to go in my book.

GM uses electric power steering on several of it's current models and Unisteer offers an aftermarket electric power steering motor they call Electrasteer.

Aren't pretty much all of the modern sprint car boxes power?

    Power sprint car box

Seems like this would be the perfect solution.

  7. I agree. I have this one for sale.....it's a Profile with an approximately 14:1 ratio which would be ideal for a street driven vehicle. It includes a new (Speedway Motors) quick-release hub for the steering wheel (not shown). This unit can be flipped for right-side cowl steer too. It just uses a GM pump.

what front end??? drop axel, ifs?? fatman fabrication uses a dakota pickup rack, they flip it right to left and that gives rh power. but that is on their fatman front ends tho,

  10. Johnny, when you say it can be flipped to right side, do you simply mean flipping the whole unit over? I think the rotation would still be correct.
