i could swear i heard he used to beat his wife from a biography i saw on TV, and cheat on her, not cool, other than that i think he was awsome. and he ran from the cops on his husky with his son on the front, i think, no wait that was JN Roberts every time i watch on any sunday, the last part in the dunes i want to cry best movie ever
One of my favorite actors. He filled the James Dean void. Very kewl, liked fast cars and motorcycles too.
He did alot of riding in The Great Escape. If ya look real close he was also the German on the bike. The guy he portrayed in that movie was loosely based on Jerry Sage who was an OSS agent captured in North Africa and the Germans never caught on to him. Col. Sage was the tec. advisor on the film (in the Green Berets at the time.) Oh yea, "Soldier in the rain".
Like everything he did. Too bad he went too soon. Think of all the cool movies that have come out since that he would have been great in. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Like I told the kid, "Your music's not too loud its just like OKC, it sucks!"
I remember one he did about being a bounty hunter (The Hunter). He drove a '50 yellow Chevrolet convertible. In the movie, he grinds the gears, and can't park the thing, a 180-degrees from the real McQueen.
My favorite Mcqueen movies have nothing to do with anything HAMB like, but I dig ,"The Cincinnati Kid", and "Papillon"
Papillon is truly one of the great flicks of all time. If Steve McQueen walked into the same room as Chuck Norris, Chuck would vaporize.
McQueen was kinda one of my childhood heroes ... In the 70's, I shared a bedroom with my younger brother ... he had posters of Pro Baseball players ... and I had posters of Hot Rods, Dragsters, Funny Cars, Stock cars ... and this 1971 movie poster: I didn't see the movie until much later in life ... but that poster spawned many childhood dreams of driving a Porsche 917 in the 24 Hours of LeMans!
Here's the entire LeMANS movie: <object width="640" height="480"><param name="movie" value="//www.youtube.com/v/Cz_BWlUgxu0?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="//www.youtube.com/v/Cz_BWlUgxu0?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="480" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
Cool. Been through there a couple a times this year. Do you know the name and or location of the place? I was gonna make a Sheryl Crow joke, but i'll refrain.
papillon is my favorite movie ever!!! also a huge fan of steve. hes such a badass and ofcourse hes the king of cool.too bad he died so young. -ryan
One of the coolest films he did was Soldier in the Rain.. very cool, as it's a diffirent side of him. McQueen and Gleason can't get much better. No one mentioned The Blob? Racing in reverse?? McQueen car guy all the way...
That poster hangs in my shop to this day! I have had it since I was twelve years old, [a long time ago]. If ever I was a wealthy man, a 917 in Gulf colors would be in my collection, not just a slot car McQueen is/was Mr. cool. Have a nice Thanksgiving John
A for real badass. Me i my dad always watch a mcqueen flick on the holidays. On any sunday, or bullit.
i loved steve mcqueen. i must have watched the great escape, bullet, and the one where hes the bounty hunter about a million times!!!
My guess is, he would have fit in just fine here. Who here would pass the chance to jump that old Mustang around San Francisco
Some ex-McQueen vehicles. Not 32 roadsters but HAMB friendly Described by Barbara McQueen as Steves Baby, the GMC was his favorite, benefiting from the McQueen treatment under the hood and hotted-up to be a wolf in sheeps clothing. (347 Pontiac engine) Note the fuel injection fender flags on the 57 1963 Steve McQueen never actually owned this Cobra but Carroll Shelby did lend him one for a period of time, that car was CSX 2174. Barbara McQueen referred to this Hudson Wasp as Steves Sunday-go-to-church car. It was one of two Hudsons McQueen owned, this one a coupe bodystyle with Twin H-Power dual carbs.
He and Barbara lived there for a while What was inside 1930 Pitcairn PA-8 Mailwing 1946 Piper J-3 Cub http://mcqueenonline.com/ http://stvmcqueen.tripod.com/index.html
... and the car chase isn't bad either! <object width="660" height="525"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/p-y1VUdnQXo&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/p-y1VUdnQXo&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="660" height="525"></embed></object>
I heard him described as "Steve McQueen, the man men want to be, and women want to be with". He was the coolest, although a younger Clint Eastwood was no slouch either. Think "Outlaw Josie Wales"
