Those Burma Shave signs on the fence posts in No. 3? Can't quite read them. Does this place sell rattlesnake eggs? Scorpion under gl*** paperweights?
The "Salute Your Shorts" Ranch got flooded and washed out. The landscape decorater shoulda spaced those rusty cars out a little more. Not realistic enough...
TOMBSTONE Man I went to UofA and want to move back to AZ so bad, but there is nothing to do in my profession there.
[ QUOTE ] Jay, you using a polorizing filter to get those great sky colors? [/ QUOTE ] No on the polarizing filter. These shots are straight from the digi-cam. Pretty much how the sky looks out here. Seeing 50-100 miles is fairly common. Not just seeing outlines, but seeing some detail in the mountain ranges far away. Just for the heck of it, here's a pic taken a few days back. The pic is very true to the color of how it was. A most strange looking sky that was darker than the pic shows when I ran in for the camera. It lightened up a bit in the minute or two between deciding to get the camera and shooting the pic.
That's Bob Waldmire's old place on old 66. I recognized the urinal with the cactus in it(ouch!) Been about ten years since I was there....and it looks the same. mid-tenn mike Poor Boys CC TN
[ QUOTE ] Those Burma Shave signs on the fence posts in No. 3? [/ QUOTE ] I'm fairly sure they are, but I didn't read em. Was more involved in shooting the pic than seeing other stuff. My friend and I met for breakfast this morning and took off to do some exploring. Usually around town, we're still learning our way around the area a little ways out of town, but this morning he gets a wild hair and next thing I know we're about 85 miles south of Kingman on Hwy 40 in Seligman, Arizona. We made the turn at Seligman and came back to Kingman on Route 66 - which is in very good shape on this section of the highway. In fact, I haven't heard anything that would indicate that Route 66 is in bad shape - at least here in AZ. The pics above are about 15-20 miles S/E of Kingman on Route 66. Here's another pic I took today.
Heck, Jay, did ya'll stop for some dead chicken at Delgadillo's in Seligman? That's some beautiful country out there---I miss it---hope to visit again someday.
[ QUOTE ] Heck, Jay, did ya'll stop for some dead chicken at Delgadillo's in Seligman [/ QUOTE ] We just cruised through Seligman. Decided to make the run in our roadsters later on and bring the Sweeties along if we get a warm day - like today was - but we toughed it out in my friends new dodge Hemi pickup. So far, we have several roadster runs figured out.
Route 66 from Kingman to Seligman is one of my favorite rides.I only got to do it once and that was in a rental, but what a beautiful part of our country.I gotta get back there!!Thanks for the pix.
The Arizona Rt 66 group does an annual run in the spring starting in Seligman and going on 66 into Kingman. Overnight in Kingman and again on 66 up through Oatman ending at Golden Shores down by the Colorado River. I highly recomend it. If you havn't seen Oatman yet, you must. And take the missus, my guess is she'll love it.
[ QUOTE ] any of those for sale? or just yard art? [/ QUOTE ] I'm guessing the rusty cars and the Model A coupe are yard art and not for sale. Didn't stop and ask. The two pickup cabs sitting on the ground may be for sale since they were displayed in plain sight. The guy - or gal - had a couple of other cars that were easy to see from the highway. Here's a pic of one. Taken from the back, from the front it looks like a 37 Chevy coupe.
Here's a landmark for the pickup cabs, 37 Chevy coupe/pickup and the 30 something pickup. It's a closed down BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs) schoolhouse. I'm guessing it's located about 25-30 miles S/E of Kingman on Route 66 headed for Seligman. It'll be on your left side headed down.
[ QUOTE ] Route 66 from Kingman to Seligman is one of my favorite rides.I only got to do it once and that was in a rental, but what a beautiful part of our country. [/ QUOTE ] It is a beautiful part of the country, no doubt about that. Here's one last pic. Taken on the way back to Kingman and maybe 20-40 miles north of Seligman. A little blurred due to the pic was shot through the side window of the Hemi Dodge pickup running 65 or so....
Man, that's some sapphire sky!! Good pics. Look like they're out of the old Arizona Highways magazines. Thanks.
[ QUOTE ] is that a 56 chev in pic 3 [/ QUOTE ] Pretty sure it is. You can't see it in the photo, but right above the Chevy's B pillar is the tail end of a red & white 57 or so Desoto sticking out.
