I have 1/2 inch fuel line from my high volume fuel pump to the back of my truck. But the new fuel tank has 3/8 line coming out of it. Can I just buy a reducer to run in line to make the 1/2 stuff work?
Yes, you can use a reducer, but it kinda negates the benifit of teh 1/2 line. The best way to do it is score the correct fitting for your tank. Summit, Jegs or maybe even your local hydraulic shop should carry Aeroquip style A-N fittings, you will need a -8 bulkhead. Good luck, -Abone.
I think I have it figured out. The truck originally had a fuel cell in it so the PO ran 1/2 line up to the fuel pump. I put an original tank back in it but it has about 1 1/2 ft of 3/8 hard line attached to the sending unit. I didn't think I would have to change the line and all the fittings, just put a reducer right at the fuel sending unit line, where the 1/2 hard line starts.
You should be able to get a compression fitting that has 3/8 on one end and 1/2 on the other. Should also be able to get a flare fiting the same way. Unless you are running high pressure pump like for fuel injection, the compression fitting will be ok. I've used this guy :http://www.br***catalog.com/catalog_browse/index.php?p=Cart/speedorder&s=www.fittingsandmore.com They show a br*** compression union 1/2 and 3/8, part #18-081.
here is how I plan set mine up...if it helps at all. Tank to fuel filter - 3/8th hard line (approx 6 inches) Fuel filter to electric red holley fuel pump - 3/8th line (approx 4 inches) Fuel pump up to general engine area 5/16th hard line (probably 10 ft or so) Transfer to rubber hose (1 ft) Rubber hose to ******d smaller inline fuel filter to carb (few inches) I am pretty confident you shouldn't have a problem.
