Anybody recognize these?

Going thru a flea market yesterday i saw these and i thought they might be air cleaner housings for 1 or 2bbl carbs. The guy i got them from had no clue what they were for or even if they were automotive. The two pieces have different depth and inside hole opening sizes, i thought they were seperate pieces but when i played with them i discoverd that they 'nested'.
Anybody have a clue to what they are?
